Moving was hard, really hard. I was leaving behind all my friends back in Melbourne, but my dads job required moving every time he got an upgrade involving it. Not even moving towns or cities, I wish, it meant moving countries, or continents. Its nice to travel around the world but the pain of leaving my friends is heartbreaking, especially the look on their faces when I give them the news. It was the day of the move, my friends, Daniel, Jennifer, James, Sally and Lily were at the airport ready to wave me off. I loved them, so, so much, it was hard to say goodbye.
We reached the second gate, and that's when it hit me, I was leaving Melbourne, I was leaving Australia after living there for two years, it eventually hit me I would never see any of them wonderful people again. I felt my vision become blurry, tears building up in my eyes. I held them back but they were pushing and pushing. The first tear slowly dropped down my right cheek, causing me to let the rest fall.
I felt an arm around my shoulders, my dad was trying to comfort me, but lets face it, it was his fault in the first place. I gave him a small, weak smile, causing him to grin, squeeze and release my shoulders.
I went up to Sally first. Sally was a sweet girl, dirty blond hair, normally curled to perfection, however it was 11:40pm so she swiftly placed a messy bun on her head, her eyes were as blue as the sky on a summers day. She had a perky, jolly personality which kept dimples always on her face, smiling constantly, even now at one of the saddest moments of my existence, but she was trying to keep me positive.
I hugged her for at least 20 seconds then moved over to Lily.
Lily was pretty much the opposite of Sally, the ways of getting through bad situations was thinking of the worst that could happen. That way, she couldn't get put down if something terrible happened. She didn't really think about what she said before she said it, for example, if someone asked her opinion on something, she didn't think about the consequences after, and it most likely ends in bitch slaps or tears... I guess that's why I loved Lily so much, we had a completely un awkward stare for around 10 seconds, she gave me a quick hug and let me move on.
Next was Daniel, also known as Skip. He was the kindest boy you would ever meet, always there for me when I needed it, and he was a lifesaver when it came to running me around in his car. Considering me and Skip had a bit of history, well I wouldn't call it history, he hit on me when I first moved, we went on a couple of dates over 2 weeks, nothing much really, we seemed to get over the break up and became great friends. We were so close, sometimes I was closer to him than some of my girls. I saw his eyes shrinking into his head, then springing back out along with floods of tears, of course causing me to bring out more myself. I hugged him strongly and moved on with a swift, "Goodbye Daniel".
James. James. James. He was like the cuddly teddy bear that you had when you was 3 years old. His laugh lightened up my day, and he was the one I needed when I was down. I met him after Daniel introduced me when we doubled dated. Me and Daniel, James and Lily, oh yeah I forgot to mention, James and Lily are still dating 3 years straight. It was sort of awkward my first time meeting him considering it was only the third or forth time seeing Daniel, barely a stranger to me at the time. Anyway, James was a strong character, so it made me stronger with the goodbyes. He smiled, causing me to smile, this was goodbye. I hugged him as he whispered quietly in my ear "I'll miss you", I replied with a simple "I'll miss you too." He released me tapping my back to continue.
Last but not least, never least should I say, was Jennifer. Jennifer was my best friend, she had been for over two years now, since I first moved to Pendola High School. She was the first person I spoke to in the school, and we instantly clicked after a few days that passed really quickly. We had the funniest memories I wish I could share, but the list would go on. She smiled a quick, fake smile and hugged me, where I got a whiff of her fresh, natural strawberry scented hair, she was so effortlessly beautiful, I guess sometimes making me jealous, but she had the perfect personality to match, she deserved the best and only the best. I loved her with all my heart. She hugged me, squeezing me a little too tight, but I didn't complain, I just continued for at least half a minute. She said a tiny "Goodbye my pumpkin pie, I'll miss you so much".
I left my friends at the 2nd gate and continued walking to the departing area. This was goodbye, I didn't look back until last minute, when I did they were all waving, smiling, crying and were in a line with their arms around each other. With one last wave, i stepped onto the escalator, that was it, that was goodbye.
