I read my stories to them; they seemed to like them, even Kyle.
“What happens next?” Sydney asks.
“Truthfully?” I ask, she nods, “I don’t know yet, I know where the stories going I just have to get to that point.”
“What now?” Kyle asks.
“Well,” I say getting up, “You could guys could read the Harry Potter books.”
“Na, I’ve already read them.” Kyle trails off.
“You’ve read them already, now you’re gonna tell me Mitchel has too.” I reply with a shocked look on my face.
“I have.” Mitchel says quietly, “Who hasn’t read Harry Potter?”
“No one, so I now assume Dustin’s read them too.” I reply.
“Hey, I wasn’t against watching Harry Potter, so of course I’ve read them.” Dustin says.
“Seriously what do we do now?” I ask.
“Does the TV work?” Dustin asks I nod. He gets up and turns it on the news flashes up.
“And to the latest story.” The news reporter says, “These five children are still trapped in the huge winter storm.” I see my face pop up on the TV screen along with Dustin’s, Sydney’s, Kyle’s, and Mitchel’s.
“Their names; Naomi Wheeler, Mitchel Smith, Kyle Morrison, and Dustin and Sydney Winsor.” She says, “Us getting them out is our main concern, however the storm is getting exceedingly worse, and other problems have arisen making the danger too great for us to bring them to safety.” She pauses, “They were reported stranded five days ago, when their bus crashed. We have more information on this, Dianna.”
“This Dianna Wilkinson reporting from Tri-boards head office.” The news reporter says, she was standing outside an office building holding a microphone, the sky there looked pretty grey. How far has the storm spread? “We have learned that these children’s bus wasn’t supposed to be running, the radio on it wasn’t working before the day of the accident and their bus driver Steve Bolder hadn’t gotten the memo, that the towns in that area were being evacuated and all busses were not running.” The woman pauses, “Back to you Sara.”
“Thank you, Dianna; although that is not recent news to us it is the first time it has been officially released. In fact, these five children and their bus driver, who is now in the hospital recovering from a coma, were the only people to be caught in the storm; we just pray they are safe and still alive.” Sara says.
“Now onto our next story…” She begins and I shut the TV off.
“Wow.” I breathe.
“It looks like we were going to be stuck in the storm anyways if we were the only ones not to be evacuated.” Dustin says.
“I guess, but it would have been so much better if we didn’t crash and if Steve hadn’t gone into a coma.” I say I feel tears welling up in my eyes.
Dustin comes and sits down next to me and pulls me into his lap and I lay my head on his chest, while he strokes my hair.
“Shh, Naomi it’s okay.” He strokes his hair, while I cry into his shirt. I knew the others were around us but they just seemed to disappear. The stress had just gotten to be too much, I k new I would crack eventually, it was inventible. I had just hoped it was after we were rescued so that I didn’t make a fool out of myself.
