I woke up covered in sweat. My eyes were wide as I sighed to myself.
“Ugh that’s the third nightmare this week!” I grumbled as I looked over at the clock on my bedside table. The time showed four thirty in the morning.
I flopped back down with a sigh and covered myself in my soft, plush sheets. I can already tell that today is going to be bad.
I woke up to the inexorable sound of my alarm clock at seven in the morning. I tiredly got out of bed and walked to my bathroom and got in the shower. I thought about the dreams that I kept having. The one thing that stuck out in all of them was a man and a crow. Chills traveled down my spine as I thought of my friend Ashley’s saying.
"Once you dream about something more than three times it will come true and ultimately be the death of you."
The thought of the shrouded man coming and killing me scared me to no end. I took the rest of my shower with those thoughts running through my head.
When I got out of the shower I wrapped a towel around my body and looked in the mirror. My auburn hair fell just above my hips and my light grey eyes looked sucked in and lifeless from my lack of sleep. Not to mention my skin seemed paler when compared to the color of my hair. I sighed as I walked out of the bathroom and into my closet. I chose a light fitting aqua Anthem Made T-Shirt paired with white shorts and one of my favorite fedoras.
I hadn’t had any plans until Ashley called me begging to see the new movie ‘The Mortal Instruments’ with her. I had told her I thought the movie was going to be a humdrum piece of- wow off topic...but I was completely obsessed with the books. My phone rang with a noise that signaled that I had a text message.
I cracked a smile looking at the message.
Typical Ashley always ordering me around.

The time was 5:50 and I was waiting for Ashley to pick me up. I was standing by the gas station waiting for the familiar black sedan to stroll up, when I saw out of the corner of my eye a creepy looking crow. Ugh, ever since those damn nightmares crows had become absolutely disgusting to me. I stared at the bird noticing its features, I gasped as I saw its crimson eyes. Just like in my dream.
Okay, now I’m creeped out!
“Idris…” I heard a voice that pulled me out of my reverie.
I looked over and saw Ashley in her car she was staring at me a little shocked.
“Ashley, hey are you ready to go?” I asked trying to avert the questions she was about to throw my way.
“I should ask you the same thing I was parked here for like five minutes before I could get your attention. Are you feeling alright?” She asked a little worried.
'No I'm seeing creepy ass crows with crimson eyes, and it just so happens to be a full moon Ashley!' I wanted to say to her but instead chose something more tactful.
“Yeah I’m fine, just tired is all. I had another nightmare this morning and I think the lack of sleep is finally catching up with me.”
I didn’t give her a chance to reply before I got into her car and sat in the passenger seat. After a while of silence Ashley finally broke it.
“You have had that nightmare three times now Idris, I’m not very superstitious or anything like that, it’s just my grandma always said that after three nightmares in a row; the devil has marked you. I’m worried about you Idy.”
Hearing her say that my anxiety came crashing down on me. I had tried to hide my fears and tell myself that I wasn’t scared of this silly dream- but the sad reality is that deep down, I knew something bad was in store for me.
