Chapter 10 ~ Parker
Ever since I had visited Liam’s apartment two nights ago, I hadn’t slept a wink. I lay awake staring at the whole in my tarp as I thought about what would have happened if I had knocked on the door. Would he have answered? Would he have shut the door in my face?
It’s weird when I think about it. Someone who never knew me before I ran away seems to care for me. That was so foreign; I don’t know how to react. My parents were always at my constant aid, always asking me if I was alright. At the time —when I was much younger— I didn’t understand why they took such an interest in me, and not my brother. But I do now.
Liam is the nicest person I had ever met. All the girls in school called me a slut, a whore, and I never knew why. My family told me it was because they were jealous since I was “prettier than they were” but I never believed them. In my eyes, everything for me was too perfect, that when I stood next to someone on the street I wouldn’t stand out. Liam was the only person that cared about me when he knew nothing about my past. And I didn’t want him to; once he found out he would treat me like everyone else in the world. I hated that. It made me feel special, knowing I was getting treated greatly when people I loved were treated like shit. It wasn’t fair. I never knew what made me so different.
The sound of the bell when I opened the door brought me back to the present. I learned that if I kept a low profile, I could go out in public without a problem. I needed caffeine —although that wouldn’t help the sleepless nights— so I made my way to the smallest coffee shop in town. I ordered a small black coffee and sat down at a small table in the back next to the window. I could see the palm trees swaying in the slight breeze. It was a beautiful day.
“Parker?”
My head snapped around, and I was greeted by curly hair and green eyes. “H-Hey Harry,” I stuttered, looking at my cup.
“Are you here alone?”
I nodded. “Yeah. How’s it going?”
“Amazing,” he said, his smile growing wider by the second. It was only then that I realized another hand was holding his. When I peeked around his shoulder, a blond girl stepped forward.
“Hi, I’m Amabel, Harry’s girlfriend.” She smiled, giving Harry’s hand a squeeze. My heart stopped. It was freaking Amabel Walker, Harry Styles' girlfriend. She was so pretty and I saw them in the magazines all the time.
“I know who you are!” I blushed, and stood up to shake her hand. “You guys are so cute together.” Shit. My fangirl was starting to show. “Sorry.”
Harry laughed. “It’s fine. Want to come and sit with us?”
“Oh no,” I said, shaking my head, “You guys are probably on a date and I don’t want to intrude—“
"I insist!” Amabel grabbed my hand and led me to a booth where she and Harry sat on one side and I sat on the other. It was so surreal sitting across from these two—since they started dating I was really happy for them. I was just like any other Directioner. Harry slung and arm over Amabel’s shoulder and she scooted slightly closer.
“How’ve you been?” Harry asked.
“Fine,” I nodded, “Just fine.”
“You’re okay right? I saw the news and I got worried. Harry told me everything that’s happened.” Amabel frowned.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Thank you.” Ugh. She was so nice. Harry was really lucky.
“You’re not staying with him, right?” Harry took a sip of his tea.
“No. I’m not.” I pursed my lips, looping my fingers around my cup, letting the warmth spread through my hands. “But he’s offered many times.” We both knew we were talking about Liam here.
“Why haven’t you accepted?” Amabel cocked her head to the side, blonde hair falling over her eyes, which she quickly wiped away.
I thought for a minute? Why hadn’t I? “I…I don’t know.” I breathed out honestly. “I just don’t want things to get complicated.”
Harry smirked. “Like how?” Amabel elbowed his ribs, and Harry rubbed them, wincing.
“I’m not sure what you mean.” The blonde girl replied sweetly, ignoring his peverted comment.
“No one has ever done that for me before. No one I hardly knew. It’s strange, and I would probably be a bother, and—"
“Trust me; even if you were to be a bother, Liam is too polite to say so.” Harry interrupted. Amabel laughed and agreed.
“So should I? Stay with him?” I frowned.
They both nodded, and then Amabel reached across the table and held one of my hands. “You don’t have to be afraid. You can trust Liam.”
I smiled. She was almost like a girl version of Liam in a way; someone you could trust. I knew already that Amabel and I were going to be friends, which is amazing. She’s one of the most famous young girls all over the world. Being Harry Styles’ girlfriend had really gotten her a lot of publicity. “I guess I’ll call him.” I said before I could over-think it.
Harry and Amabel exchanged a wide smile before he pecked her nose, then her cheek. She giggled and gave him a quick kiss before drinking some more coffee. “I hope things work out for you, Parker.” She half-smiled and her blue eyes sparkled. I took her hand and gave it a squeeze before pulling out Liam’s number out of my pocket.
I stared at it for a few minutes, all the while Harry and Amabel watching me closely. “I-I don’t know if I can do this.”
“I know you can, Parker. Trust me.” Harry said. I nodded nervously, and dialed Liam’s phone number.
Even from across the room you would have been able to see the sweat on my forehead and hear my heart pounding. If Liam answered, would he think I was weak? Would he think I was pathetic? I think that after all this time living in an alley you started to get lonely, you started to be someone you’re not. After each ring, more nerves built up in my stomach, and time seemed to pass by slower than it ever had. Then, after the fourth ring, he answered.
“Hello?”
:-:-:-:-:-:
A major cliffhanger, I know. I'm sorry not sorry. :) *evil laugh* I absolutely adore this chapter. Parker and Amabel meet and #Hamabel is just so cute. Remember, If you read/are reading Back For You, this is told from Harry's point of view in the epilogue.
