Chapter 12 ~ Parker
Liam’s apartment wasn’t what I expected. The image in my mind was nothing like what I saw when I stepped inside, my bags making my arms sore. Harry had given me a ride here, so fortunately, I didn’t have to walk.
When I looked around, I was surprisingly pleased, but mostly taken aback. The walls were white, but the furniture was bright. The couch was black and comfortable, and two chairs sat next to it, facing at an angle to the TV. They were red with yellow and white stripes. I didn’t go into the kitchen, but it was pretty small and the walls were pale green. There were only three rooms down the tiny and dimly lit hallway: the bathroom, the guest room and Liam’s bedroom.
I couldn’t believe Liam wanted me to sleep in his room. That was absolutely insane for two reasons. One: That was so gross. I wasn’t going to sleep in his bed. There was no way in absolute hell that was happening. And two: Even if I wasn’t completely grossed out, why would he anyways? I wasn’t special, and he sure as hell didn’t have to give up his room for me. Who knew how long I would be staying?
But I misunderstood him, and that led to a very awkward conversation. Oops. I don't know why I thought that, my thought had been jumbled the whole day.
Once I was semi-settled, I took a quick shower—and might I say it was the most awkward thing to shower in Liam Payne’s apartment. I knew a lot of things other than showering were done in here. After I dried myself off—thank God there were clean towels in there—I returned to the spare bedroom and got dressed, immediately getting ready for bed.
Normally, I would have lay awake for hours thinking about where I was right now and how insane this whole situation was, but I was too exhausted—physically and mentally. So fluffed my pillow and pulled the blankets to my chin and fell asleep after only a few minutes.

When I woke up, I had to take a minute to remind myself where I am. The white ceiling and small particles I saw floating around in the air aren’t normal. I frowned and sat, up, brushing the hair from my face. Looking around, I saw Liam’s furniture and the small kitchen off to the side. I stood up, and gathered my hair in a loose bun on the top of my head. It was dead silent, so I assumed Liam was still sleeping.
I sighed and went to the kitchen to make breakfast. It was the least I could do considering. The fridge was stocked with eggs, juice, milk, bread and everything I needed. After searching through multiple cabinets, I found a small mixing bowl and cracked three eggs into it, whisking until it was ready to put on the stove. I set a pan on the stove and turned on the flame, letting it warm up while I put two slices of bread in the toaster.
The eggs made the crackling noise as I poured them on the stove, and in three minutes, I made scrambled eggs, sliding them on a plate, along with the toast. I put some butter on it, and sat down, eating and thinking. It was so strange, sitting here in Liam’s kitchen eating eggs. I glanced at the clock above the oven. It was 7:30. I sighed, but frowned when there was a knock on the door.
I stood up, and walked to the door, pulling it open. My eyes widened when I saw Zayn standing there in sweatpants and a sweatshirt. “Um, hi,” I said stupidly. Biting my lip, I looked at what I was wearing: short shorts and a tank top that said “CALL ME MAYBE?” on it, with my hair in a bun, my face with no makeup on. I probably looked like a zombie.
Zayn frowned. “Hey, Parker. What are you doing here?”
I opened the door and let Zayn it, closing it behind him. “I kind of live here now.”
Zayn’s eyes widened as he sat down at the table, where I was able to finish eating. “Seriously? Since when?”
“Last night,” I said, taking my plate to the sink to start washing it. “I called him, Liam, and he said I was welcome to stay here.”
“Oh,” he smiled, “that’s great.”
I just nodded and washed my dishes, then put them away. Having this conversation with Zayn Malik was unreal. I thought that if I blinked, he would disappear. He looked so hot in the sweatpants that hung low on his hips.
“How are you taking all this?” He asked.
“All of what?” I said, sitting down next to him again.
“This.” He looked around us.
I sighed, playing with my hands in my lap. “Well, I don’t really know what to think. Liam was really nice in letting me stay here, but I don’t know why he did it in the first place. I was never nice to him, and he still wants to help me.”
“That sounds like Liam.” Zayn smirked, shrugging.
“He’s such an idiot.” I mumbled. “I think he’s trying way too hard. This is all just too much for me I think.”
“So does that mean you aren’t going to stay here?” he asked.
“Where else am I supposed to go?” I pointed out. “I have nowhere.” It was quiet after that. “So what brings you here?”
Zayn sighed. “I was just bored and since we don’t have that long before our break is over, I was going to go out or something, and Liam usually wants to come with.”
“Oh. Well it’s not even eight in the morning, Zayn. I don’t think Liam probably won’t be up for a while.” I said, rising and turning on the TV, sitting down on the couch.
“Something’s bothering you, Parker. What is it? Are you okay?” He sat down next to me.
I bit my lip and sighed. “No, Zayn. I’m not okay. I ran away from home to get away from my parents, and I was living on the street for weeks. Now, I’m sleeping on the couch of a member of a world famous band, and I don’t even know why. Liam’s an idiot for caring about me.” My head fell into my hands.
“No he’s not. Liam just cares for people. He’s just a really nice bloke and you get used to him eventually.” Zayn said, and I laughed a little bit.
“Get used to whom eventually?” Liam asked, appearing out of nowhere.
“You,” Zayn said.
Liam frowned, but went to the kitchen. I stood up and followed him. He started to get out the eggs, but I stopped him. “I got it, don’t worry.” I said, taking the eggs out once more.
“No, Parker. You don’t have to do that.” He smiled, but I side-stepped him.
“Yes I do.” I said firmly, and began cooking.
“I think I can make my own breakfast.” Liam said from behind me.
“How do you take your eggs?” I asked, ignoring his comment. Why did he have to care? What did I do to make him so interested?
Liam sighed from behind me. “Over easy.”
I didn’t turn around. Once I set the plate in front of him, he smiled and pulled out a chair for me. I scoffed, and left the room to sit with Zayn in front of the TV. A few minutes later Liam sat down next to me. “Thank you.” He said.
“I had to.” I replied, keeping my eyes on the TV.
“You did?”
“Yeah, Liam I did. Because for some reason you’re being so nice to me and I have no idea why. You’re letting me stay here, and I have no other way to repay you, and I don’t like owing people anything. I can’t give you anything back because I have nothing.” I explained, standing up and pacing back and forth. I just wish that Liam would act like I wasn’t here, so I didn’t have to do anything for him. Was it that difficult?
“You don’t have to owe me anything. Just accept it and leave it. It’s okay.”
“No it’s not.” I sighed, and then grabbed my bag to get dressed in the bathroom, leaving Zayn and Liam to talk about me. Good riddance.
