Chapter 24 ~ Parker
After Amabel left I just lay down on the couch and stared at the ceiling. I don’t know how long I lay like that; I just focused on a faint line on the white ceiling. My mind is racing of thoughts of Amabel’s past. Even though she didn’t share much with me I still feel the need to know more. The last person I expected to have an ugly past was her. She seemed so composed and upright. Unlike me. I’m a complete shit mess. She said that Harry had been helping her deal with her pain. I wish I had someone like that.
When I finally do look at the clock, it’s five minutes to eight. What have I been doing all day? I shrug to myself. I get up and get a glass of water and bring it back to the couch. As I take a sip the sound of rattling keys makes my head snap towards the door. Liam was here!
I sprinted down the hall, to my room, onto the bed and pulled the blanket over myself and became completely still. I wasn’t up for an awkward hello tonight, or ever, maybe. I heard his footsteps come inside, and then disappear down the hall. Once I heard his door close I relaxed and breathed a sigh of relief.

The next morning, I listen to my grumbling stomach and immediately start breakfast. I’m in a good mood today, for some unknown reason, and switch on the radio. I bounce to the beat of an unfamiliar song and whisk together my eggs, preparing to scramble them.
A string of knocks on the door breaks me from my trance. I pad over and look through the peep hole, only to see a blonde head of hair. I open the door.
“Hey Niall,” I smile slightly. His eyes are puffy and red, and he has dark bags under them.
“Is Liam here?” He asked.
“I don’t know, I haven’t seen him this morning. What’s wrong?”
He sniffled and I opened the door wider so he could come in. “Tell me.”
“It’s…it’s Sam.” He choked out and wiped his face with both hands. I was genuinely concerned.
“What about her?” I soothed, rubbing his back.
“She…she broke up with me.” He sobbed, and I held him against me. I had never seen him cry in person. Of course, I hadn’t known him for very long, but I was a big fan of One Direction, and I had never seen him cry like this.
“Did you want to talk about it?” I asked softly as he cried into my shirt. He nodded.
He lifted his head and looked at me with watery blue eyes. How could Sam break up with him? I didn’t know her or her motives but he looked absolutely crushed. “She said…th-that all this time apart wasn’t good for us, and things weren’t the same anymore.”
“Do you feel the same way?” I asked.
Niall shook his head no. “I thought things were great. This was totally unexpected. I love her so much, Parker.”
My chest ached for the blonde. “I’m so sorry, Niall.” I brought him into my arms again. “Can I ask…how did you two meet?” I wanted to get his mind off the pain and focus on something else. He loves her, and I want him to remember the good times they had.
"Amabel introduced us. We were all at Harry’s house. Am and Sam came over and when I met Sam, I thought she was so beautiful.” He said, more to himself than to me.
“That’s wonderful.” I said. “What else?”
“We wanted to watch a movie. Marley & Me. Sam didn’t want to ‘cause she said it makes her cry every time she watches it.” He laughed a little, and I smiled. “When I asked her out, and she said yes, I thought, wow. This is the girl for me.” His eyes got teary again.
