Chapter 11 ~ Liam

Halfway through the drive home from Louis’s, my phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number, and usually I don’t answer, but something pushed me to press the call button. It was probably just another fan or something. It usually was.

“Hello?” I said.

There was silence on the other end before someone said, “Liam?”

I slammed on the breaks and almost dropped my phone, my eyes wide. “Parker?” It was her! Why was she calling me? Did she need somewhere to stay? What was going on?

“Yeah,” She replied, and then cleared her throat awkwardly.

“Are you okay?” I asked, my eyebrows touching. I had pulled over on the shoulder of the road.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I ran into Harry and Amabel and they said I should call you but I didn’t know if I should because you could have been busy and I didn’t want to bother you and—“

“Parker. I need you to breathe.” I chuckled, switching the phone to the other ear.

I heard her take a deep breath. “I was umm…I was wondering if maybe I could…”

A wide smile spread across my face. I knew what she was asking. “Of course. You can come over now; I’m five minutes away from my apartment. You can find it okay, yeah?”

“Y-Yeah. I’ll be fine. Thanks.” Then she hung up. I sat in my car for a minute or two thinking about that conversation. What made Parker want to call me after all this time of tossing my help to the side? What changed her mind? She said she was with Harry and Amabel. I guess Amabel convinced Parker to call me. That blonde girl was very persuasive when she wanted to be.

I pulled off the side of the rode and drove to my apartment, going ten over the speed limit, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to know why Parker was suddenly up for the idea of living with me. But there was one thing I knew for sure: I was happy as hell about it.

When I opened the door to my apartment, I stood there and looked at it. It was a mess. I didn’t think I had enough time to call Harry and have him help me clean it up—after all, he is the neatest one in the band. From the kitchen, I grabbed a black garbage bag and ran around my apartment and picked up ay trash. I took the dirty dishes to the kitchen and put them in the sink. After straightening the couch cushions, I ran to the bathroom and cleaned that as much as I could. That consisted of putting everything I could in the cabinets, wiping down the sink, and then, after that, I stuffed everything that was on my bedroom floor into the drawers. Just as I was semi-satisfied, there was a knock on the door. When I checked my phone, I saw that it had been 35 minutes since Parker called me. She had gotten here quite quickly considering she didn’t have a car of her own.

I wiped my hands on my pants and then opened the door. There she was, rocking back and forth on here heels staring at her feet. On her back was a backpack, and in her arms was a blanket along with a duffel bag. “Hey.” I said, smiling.

“Hi.” She replied. We stared at each other for a second before I stepped aside and let her in. She walked in silently, looking around her. I shut the door and turned around to see her standing in front of the small flat screen TV I had, looking around her, mouth shut tight.

“Um,” I let out, and she lifted her head to look at me, her brown hair falling around her face. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

She nodded. “I’m fine.”

“Can I get you anything?”

“No thanks.”

I stuffed my hands in my pockets. “You can go put your stuff in the bedroom, I guess.”

Her head snapped up and her eyes narrowed. “Why would I do that?”

I frowned. “Because I have an extra?” Duh.

She chuckled humorlessly. “Oh, okay. Sorry.”

"Let me know if you need anything."

“You don’t have to be so nice, you know.” She muttered the last part and I took a step closer.

“Yeah, I do.”

“No,” she sat down, “You don’t.”

“Why?” I sat down on the other side of the couch.

Parker shook her head and brushed away the hair from her face. “Never mind.”

“You should be comfortable here.” I hoped she would be.

“I’ll be just fine.” She smirked.

“Fine,” I sighed, standing up. “The bathroom is the first door on your left. My room is on the right, just in case you need me.”

She nodded, and just as I was walking away, she stopped me. “Liam?”

I turned around and saw her fiddling with her fingernails nervously. “Yeah?”

“Thanks.” She gave me a weak smile, and I returned it.

“You’re welcome.”

When I got to my bedroom, I closed the door and flopped down on the bed. I couldn’t believe she was here. She was right there; right across the hall! It just didn’t make sense. She pushed me away and refused any help and then after one phone call she was sleeping in my house. It made my head hurt. Parker made so sense, and I wanted to find out why she had the sudden urge to call me. I heard her get up and walk into the bathroom, where she started the shower.

All of this was too weird, yet brilliant at the same time. It was weird because there was a girl—who was reported missing by her parents—in my shower, and it was brilliant because it meant that I could help her. And that’s all I’ve wanted to do from the get-go. Help. I could tell why she needed help, not why she didn’t want to accept it. Was it that hard for her to reach out to someone?

The shower turned off and there went her footstep again, back to her room. I squeezed my eyes shut, taking a deep breath. I had a plan. I was going to get it out of her. Not in a bad way, though. I was going to get out of her why she was here. Not that I was complaining—I was glad she was here and willing to be around me instead of wanting to spit on my face. It was killing me not knowing what was in her past. I needed to know so I could help her.

I wondered what the lads would say if they were here right now. They would have probably made fun of me and teased me about fancying Parker. That’s still not true. I don’t fancy her. But could I? Probably not. She was too guarded and I doubt what she wanted was a romantic relationship. No, I didn’t fancy her, but I wasn’t about to kick her to the curb. She seemed like a lost puppy, but too scared to accept the food out of the hand that was in front of it.

I didn’t fancy Parker. She wasn’t my type. I didn’t know I had a type, but she wasn’t it. I shook my head, and then changed into a clean t-shirt and boxers. As I lay awake staring at the ceiling, I knew sleep wasn’t going to come easily. But it did come, after hours of thinking and thinking. My eyelids became droopier and droopier, and all I could think was what Parker was doing just down the hall.
