Hayley's POV

"Call the police! I'm gonna go and look for him," I said before hurrying downstairs to put on my shoes.

I put on my worn out docs and ran out of the door. I knocked on every house I could.

"Hey have you seem my son, Rider? He's gone missing."

"No, sorry. Do you want me to help you look?" A lady said.

"Yes please. He has brown hair and he's very short. Just keep yelling Rider, okay?"

"Okay. Don't panic, we'll find him okay. "

I bit my thumb and continued running down the street yelling his name.

We kept knocking on doors and calling his name but nothing.

Chad's POV

I called the cops and the kids home and was waiting on a call from Hayley.

How could we have let this happen? I hope I didn't come across too scary when I raised my voice at him. I hung my head and let hours worth of tears escape my eyes.

Our perfect, precious boy is missing all because of that stupid woman turning up out of nowhere. I felt my phone buzz and answered immediately.

Me: hello?

H: Hi, has he come home?

Me: no. I'm taking it you haven't found him then.

H: *muffled sobs*

Me: it'll be okay. We'll find him. I promise.

She hung up and I waited for a knock at the door.

When I eventually heard one I answered it and invited the police officers inside.

"Hey, take a seat," I said when they came into the living room.

"When was the last time that you saw Rider?"

"Um well the last time Hayley saw him was in his room and that was about two hours ago."

"Okay. Can you think of a reason that he may have just ran away like this?"

"Yeah. Well we're his foster parents and his real mom showed up today. It's his birthday and she hasn't bothered with him since the day she abandoned him."

"How old was he when he was abandoned?"

"Two."

"So the chances are that he doesn't remember her."

"Yeah, he didn't recognise her."

"Okay, what did she say to him?"

"She told him that she was his mom and said that she was going to take him to Mexico."

"Okay, did she leave after that?"

"As far as I know, yes."

"Okay. We'll do a search. Is your partner here?"

"No, she's out looking."

"Okay, thank you for your time. We'll be back with any information on the search shortly."

"Okay, thank you."

Hayley's POV

We'd searched around the street for about an hour before I heard my phone ring.

Me: hello?

C: you can come home now baby. The police are looking for him. I love you.
