Kaname Hatake POV, age 6 (Kakashi age 19)

"Just-Just one more try, I promise I can do this!" I said, stumbling as I struggled to get back on my feet.

Kakashi sighed. I knew he was busy, but my training is top priority, right?

"Try again tomorrow. You shouldn't tire yourself out like this. Now I've gotta get back to work."

"Nii-chan!" I pouted. He's my older brother. Why can't he just stay here and train with me? Why does he always go out? Doesn't he ever get a day off? ANBU overworks him to such an extreme extent that it gets me angry.

"Kaname, I didn't even fully master Chidori myself until I became a Jounin. So don't over do it, okay?" Kakashi patted my head and smiled down at me. It was hard to see since he always wore a mask, but I learned that you can tell his expression just by his eyes, gestures, and tone of voice. My brother gave off a mysterious aura but I can read him like an open book.

"But you're so cool, nii-chan! How could it take you that long to master your own jitsu?"

"Hm," Kakashi hummed thoughtfully. "My Sensei told me I wouldn't be able to use Chidori because the move is too fast-paced for the human eye, so much so that even I couldn't capture the movement. But luckily.." Kakashi lifted his forehead protector, revealing his Sharingan. It was given to him by a friend, who unfortunately died right before his eyes.

"Ah, I wish I had Sharingan eyes. The Uchiha are so lucky. Do we have any cool abilities?"

"I'm afraid not. But we don't need cool techniques to be powerful shinobi, right?"

"Right!" I grinned. My brother was the best.

"Good. I'll be heading off to work then. See ya."

[Next day..]

"How are things with Itachi?" I asked Sasuke, a member of the Uchiha clan. He was my closest friend in Konoha. We could relate to each other so well, we both want to be great Shinobi that will one day surpass our older brothers. We shared that dream, and together we trained hard.

"He's still too busy to help me train. These days he feels so distant. It's like.. He doesn't love me anymore." Sasuke answered, staring off into the river. We always hung out at this peer after we trained.

"Yeah, I understand. Kakashi and I train for only an hour at most."

"At least he still acts brotherly towards you. Itachi doesn't even bother to train me."

I frowned. It made me sad to see Sasuke like this.

"Don't even worry about it, Sasuke! I'm sure he'll come around eventually."

"Yeah. I sure hope so." Sasuke stood up and stretched, yawning as he did so. "I gotta go now, otherwise my mom will get worried. Meet you here tomorrow, then."

"Okay. See you."

I watched the gentle movement of the river as Sasuke ran off, going home to his parents. Family. He may be more distant to his brother nowadays, but at least he still had his mom and dad. I never even got to meet mine. At least Kakashi had a good thirteen years with mom, and fifteen years with dad. I had no time with mom and two years as a toddler with dad. I just wish I got to know my parents.

There are some kids who have it worse off than me. They don't get an awesome and caring older brother like Kakashi or a determined and kind friend like Sasuke.

I rose to my feet and began walking home, head down and my hands in my pockets. I walked past Naruto Uzumaki, a fellow orphan. Kakashi told me about what was really inside him, the Nine-Tails that terrorized Konoha, but he said that that alone shouldn't effect how I treat Naruto.

Usually I see him around the village, pulling pranks, getting told off by adults. Today, however, as I subtly examined his expression, I realized he had wet cheeks and puffy red eyes. Naruto was crying.

"They'll never understand me.." Naruto muttered under his breath. "I'll become Hokage one day, just watch me. Believe it!"

I snorted. Hokage? You're kidding me.

"I heard that!" Naruto spun around on his heels.

"Sorry, I just thought I heard you say you want to be the Hokage."

"Yeah! Believe it!"

"Okay, sure, you'll become Hokage." I said sarcastically, brushing him off. Naruto's face was now as red as a tomato's, he sure gets provoked easily.

"Fight me, then! Right now! I bet I'll beat you!"

I smirked devilishly. Even though Kakashi beat me by a landslide as a six-year-old Shinobi, I was still pretty formidable at the arts.

"Alright, then, I'll take you on."

Naruto immediately swung a fist, which I easily dodged. He kicked, but I caught his leg mid swing. I released his leg, and as soon as he regained balance he kicked with his left leg. I crouched. While he was temporarily blind I used the Substitution technique. Naruto performed a headlock and immediately smiled proudly.

"Hah! Got you!'

"Nope." I jumped out of the tree in which I was hiding and pinned Naruto down to the ground. "Maybe next time, kid."

"Whatever." Naruto growled, pushing me off of him. Well that was interesting.
