[Kaname Hatake POV]
I was shivering of anticipation, and yet a little fear inside me grew. I didn't think we would be out there risking our lives day one. Now I consider this to be kind of reckless on Konoha's part. Putting Genin on life threatening missions already? Seriously?
I shook my head of the thoughts. This is what I asked for, I shouldn't be complaining. But still, this doesn't make sense..
Blegh. Shinobi are supposed to be fearless. And so it shall be.
"So, Sensei, where are we going?" Sho asked.
"You'll see, patience is a virtue." hummed Genma-sensei.
"Stupid old man sayings." Sho mumbled.
After about a half hour of walking, I saw from a distance a rather large-scaled farm. Genma held out his arm, halting us from proceeding further. He crouched, and we followed his example. For once in his life, Sho actually looked like he was serious.
"There, at the farm. That's our first mission." Genma whispered.
"What do we have to do?" I asked, trying to sound as professional as possible.
Genma began to slowly move forward. He suddenly took cover in the trees, and hopped from branch to branch. What the hell was he doing?
"What's going on?" Misaki said, genuinely looking worried.
I shrugged, I didn't know any better than she did.
After chasing down Genma, I realized we were now only meters away from the farm.
"Come," Genma motioned us out of the trees and towards the front door of the house on the farm. He promptly knocked on the door.
Misaki, Sho, and I stood there, not knowing what we'd see, not knowing what to expect, not knowing what would or could happen. The door slowly began to creak open, and we were greeted by..
An old couple that didn't look threatening in the slightest.
"Hello, we are the Shinobi from Konoha." Genma greeted.
"Agh, finally!" said the old Grandpa exasperatedly.
The grandma unexpectedly backslapped the grandpa in the head. This grandma's got a better arm than you'd think..
"Where are your manners!" she scolded, as a mother would to a child. She turned to us and smiled brightly. "Thank you young people for coming down! We could use a lot of help here at the farm."
I looked at Sho and he looked back at me, an eyebrow raised. Didn't Genma-sensei say that we would be on a life-threatening mission?
"Uh.. Farming?" I asked questionably. Genma ignored me.
"Farming!" said the old lady gleefullly. "Though tedious, provides delicious vegetables that are a natural source of healthy vitamins and minerals!"
"Oh, yay, exciting." Sho rolled his eyes.
"Indeed, indeed, vegetables are great." Genma nodded in agreement. "We should get to work straight away."
"Hardworkin' young'uns, didn' see tha' comin'." groaned the old man, "Tha's jus' wha' this gen'ration needs more of. More hardworkin' young'uns.."
This guy's Japanese was barely understandable. And I suppose an old war story was to follow with his complaining of the new generation?
"Y'know, back when I was 'ur age.."
Another swift slap to the back of the head by old grandma. "Hush up, old man!"
"Hmph."
Grandma turned to us. "We've got three tasks that need to be done. Firstly, we've got an old cow to sell here that needs to be transported to the buyer. It'll be a pretty far walk from here to there, so I recommend someone responsible to do it."
"That's my job," Genma volunteered.
"Next, I could do with some help with the laundry, and with the small flower garden out back. This old man here never helps," Grandma pointed an accusing finger at Grandpa. He snorted.
"I'll help with that," said Misaki.
"Finally, we'll need someone to pick rice seedlings with Grandpa."
"I guess that's up to us."
"I guess." Sho shrugged. He was clearly unhappy. But it's not like his unhappiness was without reason.
"It's settled then! I'll take out the cow, Misaki will help Grandma with the laundry and flower garden, and Sho and Kaname will help Grandpa with the rice farm."
I'd much rather take the cow out. A long relaxing walk alone would do some good. Too bad Genma snatched up that job, damn him.
"Alright, Misaki-chan, when you're ready meet me inside to gether the laundry and afterwards we'll walk to the stream together."
Misaki smiled politely. "Alright."
Grandma began walking away, Grandpa walking to the farm without saying anything to me and Sho.
"Can we have a word?" Sho said coldly to Genma.
"Sure. What's up?" Genma spoke as if he'd never done a bad thing in his life. Must be one of the many skills of a Jounin level Shinobi.
"You said we were supposed to be on a life-threatening mission. This is not a life threatening mission."
"Oh yeah, I did say that."
"So what the hell's with this act?"
"It's a really awesome joke!" Genma giggled, his loud schoolgirl chuckles radiating across the farm.
I frowned. "Not really awesome.."
"That's not fair! We're way more advanced level than this!" Sho complained, yelling over Genma's fit of laughter.
"You guys actually thought you were going on a dangerous mission. Man, Genins are so cute." said Genma. He wiped a tear out of his eye.
"Genma-sensei!" Sho said, terribly exasperated.
"You'll have more fun here than you ever will during an S-Rank mission, trust me."
"How could we trust you-"
"Blah, blah," said Genma, cutting off Sho. He began walking way towards the cow. "Enjoy your first mission!"
