By the time I walked out of the front door of my house, my brain had already gotten to work on letting my paranoia sink in. After all, we had crashed Skylar's party last night, and it had been a whole mess!
'You know, it's all because you messed up on your job,' a voice in my head replied.
I sighed, knowing that it was at least partially true. Turning around, I waved goodbye to my younger sister with a fake smile plastered on my face. I had already created a bit of distance, so I figured she wouldn't notice that little detail. Once again facing forward, I began the brisk walk to school. After all, I lived about five minutes away, and my mother would always drive Teagan to Cherry Grove Middle, which was farther away, while my dad had already left for work. And, whether I liked to admit it or not, I needed the exercise; I lazed around way too much at home!
Paranoid thoughts began swirling around in my mind as I left the comfort of home.
'They definitely haven't forgotten about the incident, and they SO caught you at the party.'
'They're probably waiting for you. They'll want revenge.'
'You don't stand a chance....'
Choosing to fight back against my thoughts, I moved my new Aster-bought headphones from their previous position, which was around my neck, to my ears. Turning on my iPod, I put my songs on shuffle mode, and smiled when the all too familiar intro of "Face Down" began to play. I began to quietly sing along, the thoughts fading away.

The final guitar chords still echoed in the back of my mind as the song came to a close. Spotting the school building up ahead, I quickened my pace, hoping to get inside homeroom before my tormentors. Another song had started playing, but by then I wasn't paying any attention.
Walking through the open doors, I made my way through the maze known as "school hallways". There were so many hallways and classrooms, I'll admit, I'd gotten lost before. Of course, now having two full school years of experience, as well as part of this current year, it hardly happens anymore. And when I say that, the keyword is hardly. I almost walked into the wrong classroom for first period when our junior year began! Laughing at the memory, I made my way through hallways and stairwells to eventually reach my locker.
Quickly putting in my combination, I opened the door to an anime wonderland, and I'm not kidding. My locker was covered with pictures from animes such as Charlotte, Free!, Your Lie in April, Madoka Magica, OHSHC, and my personal favorite, Hetalia!
A hand yanked my backpack strap just as I was reaching my physics textbook drawing me to face to face with none other than Harrison Walters, Skylar's football jock boyfriend.
"I don't know what you were doing at Sky's party, but I really don't care!"
Harrison doesn't know much and he clearly doesn't care as you may have already figured out! He's basically Skylar's lapdog, waiting to be pet and praised. Oh, he was gonna get a heck of a lot of praise after all of this was over!"If you had seen Aster's graffiti on the side of you girlfriend's mansion or seen the TP'd trees out front, maybe you would've realized we were there to hijack the party, 'cause my friends and I really didn't want to waste our evening with a bunch of jerks like you! But I guess you just can't get that through your head, can you?" I snapped, before covering my mouth immediately after.
'Did you really just say that? Melody, you must have a death wish of some sort!' my thoughts screamed.
I felt like I had been punched in the stomach from that remark, and judging by how Harrison and his fist had thrown me from my locker oasis into the desert of never ending people and their prying fingers, I had.
While I was lying sprawled on the floor, Harrison straddled me and socked my face a few times too much.
"Have you learned your lesson yet, weeb? Do you know what happens now when you ruin our fun?" The football star mocked me as he punched me in the nose, pain blossoming across my pale face and blood gushing onto my new Vocaloid T-shirt.
'Damn, that was new! And how was I going to explain the blood to my parents!'
"You know, that was my new favorite T-shirt, but thanks to you, it's ruined!" I growled, attempting to pop Harrison in the nose, but to no avail. He threw his head back and laughed.
"Are you serious? That was weak!"
I knew he was right. Honestly, I have strength equal to the strength of a chicken nugget. It's quite depressing, actually, just like this Friday...
"What. Do. You. THINK. You're. Doing. Walters?" A shadow fell across my tormentor's back. Even though I couldn't see the figure's face, I would know it anywhere! Aster, our avenging angel!
"Ha! I was done with her anyways!" With that, Harrison left me with one last throw to the eye and shoved himself off of my chest (not without knocking what breath I had left in me, of course!) and proceeded to knock the onlooking bystanders into lockers to make a path of superiority through the crowded hallways.
No sooner had Harrison left, Aster fell next to me on her knees. "Shit, Mel, I'm so sorry!"
"It's not your fault!" I struggled to sit up and tried a smile.
"The whole plan was my idea!" My best friend retorted. Only a few students who wanted to stall before class were left to witness our argument.
"But we were all in it together!" I held out a hand, asking for a help up. "Besides, they deserved what they got! We had to put them back in their place!"
"It's still my fault overall, " My best friend grumbled. "And I have to take you to the clinic before I'm late to class!"
Aster was notorious for being late! She would slide into her desk twenty minutes late to say to the teacher, "I'm not late, I'm fashionably late!" Either way, my best friend was always reprimanded for her sass!
As we made our way our the corner, I opened my mouth to say something.
"This better not be about how this isn't my fault Melody!" Aster started.
"No, I was only going to say to watch your language, Asteroid!"
