"And for today's speech, lets welcome on last year's most outstanding student....", the principal stopped talking when a teacher whispered something to him. "Unfortunately, she's not around and we are sorry to say that. Let's welcome Kushina Inoue to give a challenge to incoming freshmen and sophomore students", the principal announced. Kushina went up the stage and students gave a round of applause. Four girls are busy texting at the back portion of the auditorium. "Geez, where is that girl?", Yui tried to call her but she's out of coverage area. "Where are you? I'll burn all your favorite worms hidden at the dorm", Rai texted to threaten her. "Have you heard anything about her during this summer?", Yui asked. "She just told us that she's going back to Hawai to visit her parents. She never mentioned that she'd stay there to study", Nami informed. They all sighed in unison. The opening ceremony ended. Rai and the rest of the girls contacted Shiro and the group to meet somewhere down the streets. Rai saw a man in hood leaning beside the gate. "Matsuoka-san?", she was startled. Rin looked up and removed his hood. "Yo", he greeted.
They walked down the streets with Rin in the middle. "So.. Matsuoka-san, what are you doing here?", Yui asked. " I was actually waiting for Kizutani. There some things I wanted to discuss with her about Megumi but it appears that she's not here", Rin explained. "Right, her name wasnt also written on the official list", Nami informed. "Not officially listed?", Rin raised his eyebrow. "We'd be looking for her. Do you want to come along?", Hino invited. "I think I have to pass", Rin excused himself and went back to Samezuka.
Rai and Shiro's group united and they walked around the city. They checked every corner which Aoi usually goes to but she's nowhere to be found. "Maybe she's really at Hawai", Yui sighed and sat at the park bench. They all ended up into a park. "So this is how it feels when she's not around", Tousuka sighed. "You were Aoi's friends before us. You might know some things about her", Nami tilted her head. Tanaka and Tousuka looked at each other. "We're not in the position to tell anything", they all said in unison. "Let's go hit the KTV station. She'll come back. Dont worry", Rai assured. They all nodded in agreement and went to chill out.
Samezuka Academy
Rin lies at his bed. "Rin-senpai! Are we going to have a competition this month?", Nitori asked while looking down from the upper deck. "None...but...There's an open catergory competition to be held at Sano Swimming Center. We can join if you want to", Rin answered. Nitori's eyes brightened and he nodded. "I will go", Nitori said with all excitement flowing in his veins. Rin stood up and circled around their room. "Is there anything bothering you?", Nitori asked. "I'll be going at the hospice. Just leave the door open", Rin informed. "I'll be going with you", Nitori went down his deck. "Stay here. I'll be back within an hour", Rin assured.
Hospice...
Megumi lies down the bed and read her favorite stories. Her body is becoming frail as the days pass by. Rin knocked. "Rin-san!!!", Megumi called out and smiled. Rin entered her room and sat at the chair beside the bed. "Rin-san. Can you read me this story again?", Megumi asked. Rin looked at the book. Humpty Dumpy.
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
All the king's horses and all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again
"This is a very wonderful story", Rin appreciated. "But it sounded so sad", Megumi commented. "Megumi, sometimes.... Things that seems broken have the most wonderful stories", Rin lectured. "Humpty Dumpy fell in love with fhe heights. But then... Because he went too high... He got shattered and he cannot be together...never was he mended", Rin narrated. She looked at Megumi and she was already asleep. "That's a confusing thing for a kid", a voice startled Rin and he turned back. He saw pair of brown eyes. "Yoshima",he sighed and fixed Megumi's blanket. "I came here thinking that I might find any hint about Aoi", Rai informed. "You were the one who always tells me that she can manage herself", Rin stood up. "I'm not worried about her. Its just that she never contacted us during that Summer Vacation", Rai clenched her fist. Rin just listened to her. "Then, see you again", Rin bid farewell.
The next days at Raira Academy... August
Class 1-1 former landscape area.
It won first place last school year but it was all mess right now. The flowers are starting to wither because of the weather. "It was a waste, Isnt it?", Rio suddenly appeared in front of Rai. "That girl gave her very best to beautify and maintain this spot", Rio chuckled. "There are no such things as permanent moments", Rio looked at Rai. "Come on, its already time", Rio called Rai back to their classroom.
Class 2-1
"Time to elect for a president", the class adviser announced. "Eh~ arent we going to wait for Kizutani?", some complained. "She didnt enroll here so we cant do anything about it", the adviser rolled her eyes. "I still want her!!!", the student stood up. "Sit down, Asahi-kun", the teacher called his name. "No! I will never forget how she sacrificed in order that we can attend the festival at Iwatobi. She volunteered to water plants in exchange of our request to see that festival. I was there when she was talking to the principal.", Asahi revealed. They all nodded in unison. "Then wait for her", the teacher sighed. "People come and go. That's how things work in this world", their adviser looked at her students. "Any nominations?", she raised her voice. "I nominate Yoshima Rai", Inoue raised her hands . The nomination was closed and was seconded by everyone. "Congrats! Rai", Hino and the rest patted her back.
Break...
Rai looked down the window and reminisced the past experiences with Aoi.
Flashback...
Entrance examination for 1st Years.
Yoshima Rai's POV
It was the summer when Mom and Dad pushed me to take an exam at a prestigous school here in Osaka. Raira Academy is a boarding school so I wonder if I have to the courage to take this opportunity. Mom and Dad always had high expectations from me. As I enter the examination hall, I saw group of students gathering around a blonde girl. Her aura was soothing and she had a bright smile. I wonder if they are from the same school. The proctor came in and we all settled into our chosen seats. That blonde sat beside me. "Kizutani Aoi here", she waved at me. "Ah... Yoshima..Rai", I stuttered. She gave a wide smile and wished me the best for my examination.
1St day of School...
I finally calmed down when I learned that I was also in Class 1-1. A place where all big brains are. I peeked inside and saw a familiar figure. If I recall, it was Kizutani-san. She looked at me and waved. "Come in", she called out. Again, she was surrounded by people. A lot of them are interviewing her. "Where did you study during middle high?", one girl asked. It was Hino. "I came from Hawai. But I studied here during my elementary years", Kizutani-san answered. She doesnt communicate with those who stick with their books all day long that much. She lives hanging out with lower classes and some of my classmates. Hino, Yui, and Nami became my circle of friends. Aoi doesnt really spend much time inside the school so we only meet her outside the campus. She had a lot of friends with the neighboring schools and she became too famous.
Aoi and I usually have long conversations during cleaning time. She was elected as our president and we had a lot of crazy adventures with her. There are things that only she knows. Hino, Yui, and Nami are my friends but I dont see myself opening my problems to them. Aoi understood me and eventually we became close as days passed by....but then.... As her world expands, the bigger gap we had from each other. I oftenly argued with her about always putting others into considerations. There's always a limitation in helping others. That's what I always thought

That was a short background of Rai and Aoi's meeting point.
