Beep. Beep. Beep
This couldn't be happening, yet she wa still in that hospital bed.
Her normally flawless face was covered in blue and purple bruises. Her midnight black hair was matted together and slightly red from blood. There were tubes coming from everywhere as well as casts on her arms and legs.
I say at the edge of her bed thinking about the brief moment I spent with her. I ran my finger over her swollen lip remembering how soft she was.
I was totally lost in my thoughts until the heart monitor began to beep faster. A tear slowly rolled down my cheek.
"Sam...." a weak voice said.
I couldn't believe I was looking into this piercing eyes again. The doctors said she'd never wake up.
"Oh my god!! You're awake!" I smiled.
"I told you I'd be here when you needed me", she said.
I wrapped my arms around her.
"Don't ever leave me like that again", I demanded.
Kaylin got this glassy look as she looked at me. She pointed to her bag on the other end of the room. I brought it to her.
"I want you to have this", Kaylin said, pulling out a small locket in the shape of a heart, "If I can't be with you, I'll always be there."
I kissed her softly but passionately. I was so in love with this girl.
"Kaylin. Please don't give in yet. Fight for me, us, Layla, your dad. Anyone that will keep you here", I cried as I heard them all enter the room.
"I love you. I always have from that first day. But sometimes life gives us the best things right at the end when we should treasure them the most," she smiled," I have everything I've ever needed. All that's left is having just one more kiss from you."
I felt my heart squeeze. The tears falling freely.
"When we're 80 years old and siting in rocking chairs in the front porch, I'll kiss you. I want to spend every second of the rest f my life with you and this can't be the end, not yet", I begged.
"Well then. At least give me something to look forward to," she giggled,"Sam, will you marry me?"
Kaylin pulled the ring out of her bag. It was small but so beautiful
"Yes", I whispered.
I leaned forward and pressed my lips to her. I felt sparks shoot through my body. She kissed me back as if I was the air she needed to breathe and then the monitor went into a solid steady line.
