I quickly ran upstairs and grabbed my old bag I used for the gym and started throwing in clothes of mine and hers into the bag. Then I got a ladder and opened the attic and got my big case down. I saw Brooke and Mikal at the doorway watching me and seeing what I was doing and stood there quietly expecting me to tell them something. I continued to get the case out of the attic and sat it on the bed. It was still there my rifle that my brother gave to me and the pistol I had bought that matched the same one I bought for Mia's. The space that was left for hers was gone. She must've taken it and took it with her on the road. There was still enough ammo for both of my weapons left in the attic that I then threw into the bag as well. From this point the look that I got from them two was rather strange.
"Lucas, what did you do before everything went down?" Mikal asked after he saw me packing the guns I had. I didn't respond as my mind was already set on what was going on. I zipped up my bag and left my bedroom past them back downstairs and started to go through what I had left in food. They again followed me as if we were playing follow the leader. Then a hand on my arm made me stop as I turn to see Mikal I turned to him slowly to see them both waiting.
"Where ever you're going Lucas we want to go with you. We owe it to you after allowing us to stay here." Mikal says and Brooke nods after hearing his statement. I looked at them with a surprised look on my face. They didn't owe me anything in my eyes. They were not able to pull the trigger themselves.
"You guys don't have to do that its fine." I said with a concerned look on my face.
"Well it doesn't matter, by the look on Brooke's face I know it is what she wants as well. We could use another person in our group and if you do find, Mia is it?" He asked and I Nodded. "Then Mia could join our cause as well, we want to help you and if you find her both of you can come with us to the coast." It made sense to travel with others and now with what is going on I couldn't find a reason against it. They seemed to have this way about them that was really hard to say no.The next few moments they loaded whatever else they needed into my truck. We continued to pack anything that was needed and started to make our way out of my house. I took one last look at my living room and kitchen and made my way upstairs to my bedroom. When I got there I walked over to our dresser to see the pictures of Mia and me throughout. I then found my favorite picture of us. We were at The Venetian in Las Vegas and had our picture taken on these gondola rides. She looked amazing that day. She had this long black gown on with her diamond bracelets and necklace. I loved every second of that day. After smiling to myself when picking up the picture I put in one of my bags and headed down stairs. I locked up my house even though it didn't matter. I don't know if I was ever going to make my way back here. Once we got in the truck I started to drive away seeing my house get smaller in the distance until I had to make that turn on to main road.
We continued driving towards the direction I knew that Mia would have taken towards her parents. It was mostly an open road with a few exceptions of not having room due to abandoned cars and trucks scattered around the vast desert. You sometimes saw road overtaken with dirt more than road and then you would get farther down and it would turn back to regular road. During each moment of what seemed like forever I would her Brooke singing to herself. I didn't have any music in for the fact of saving as much gas as possible. Finally she broke her pause and starting to lean closer to me in the center. Brooke sat in front in the passenger seat and Mikal sat in the back taking up as much room as he could. I couldn't go as fast as normal because of random debris that would be scattered on the roadway.
"Hey Lucas, how do you know exactly that this is the way she would take?" Brooke asked trying to make the time go by. She seemed most interested and not as if she needed to break the silence.
"She always liked the scenic routes and when we would travel we took more small roads than we did larger roads for the fact it seemed we were closer to nature." I tried to make it as simple as possible.
