(Chapter 11) Red X

Hector just looked at him and shook his head and walked what bags he had with him into a storage shed. At that moment Jesse's eyes made their way towards me as I stood there with my hands in my pockets. I didn't know what I could say if anything. Jesse nodded his head and then turned to the people around us. He took a moment and covered his mouth with his hand and shook his head off maybe trying to rid himself of the guilt.

"We all know the risks out there in the open. Mark was generous enough to make it clear that he wanted to help out when it came to these supply runs. We lost a great person today. Today we mourn the loss of one of our own." Jesse said and then put his arms around one of the women who was crying and holding a little boy. The people began to walk off slowly in amazement. Jesse truly did care about his people maybe he wasn't such a bad guy that I thought he could be.

I walked away from it all and head back into town still surrounded by people whispering closely to themselves as we walked past each other and that's when I heard someone yelling at someone else. It was clear what the conversation was about until I got closer.

"I told you we should leave, we already lost another person. How long until we lose more than one person or even this base." It was a man that seemed very upset.

"Listen I understand that but we can't leave. Where would we have protection no one else here is able to protect us as well as Jesse has these past few months." A fairly older woman said. I accidently slipped on some rocks and decided at this point to walk further I past them both not looking at them and focused on getting to the RV that Mia took over.

"Lucas!" I heard a woman shout. I looked over and it was Brooke. She was being led out by two men with guns as well as Mikal. I ran over to them and stood in front of the two men.

"Move sir this doesn't involve you." One of the men said to me he was a fairly older gentleman and had a few scars on his face. "I am not going to ask you again sir."

"Hold on, what are you doing with these two they have done nothing wrong to your colony. Why are they tied up still?" I said with my arms open out wide to show I wasn't going to do anything to these men.

"We have strict orders sir to escort them off our grounds. Now make way." The guy said and then pushed me to the side and continued to walk them forward. I got frustrated and stood in front of them again and that's with the other guy put his gun to my face.

"We asked you to stop sir. We do have authority here and you are stepping over the line." This guy looked younger but still had a smug look on his face like he was looking forward to shooting me.

"Look my name is Lucas, I am Mia's fiancé and all I'm asking is for you two hold on two seconds so I can at least say goodbye to them. They saved my life." I said trying to convince them to give me time to think about how I can reverse this situation. At this point the guy got frustrated at me and swung the back of his gun at me. I avoided it disarmed him and pointed the gun at his face and place him in front of me and the other man.

"Look I didn't ask for him to attack me now put your gun down." I shouted. I saw the guy slowly put his gun on the floor. In the distance I saw Jesse running over to us from behind him as he put his hands up with his eyes wide scared if I was going to shoot. Everything slowed down at this point. I didn't want to shoot anyone I just wanted to have a chance to figure out what was going on.

"Okay. Okay. Put the gun down Lucas." Jesse said to me and I continued to have it raised 4 other people came over with their guns pointed at me. "Calm down everyone he didn't mean anyone harm. If he was going to shoot one of them he would've done it already." I saw Jesse slowly walk closer to me. "Look just hand me the gun and we can talk about this." He gave me a very understanding look.
