I was finally able to get some sleep and woke up to Mia coming out of the shower. I got up and put on whatever clothes I could find that fit which mainly made me look like someone who was going to a business meeting. I walked towards the front of the RV and sat down watching the outside once again now seeing kids playing in the open areas and families chatting together. Then after a few moments I noticed Jesse in the distance and saw him shaking a few hands with the families making his way from one RV to the next.
"So how did you sleep babe?" Mia came and sat behind me and wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed my cheek.

"Alright not amazing. It's still unusual for me here." I said and then she got up and finished getting dressed.

"I got to go take care of my job here and then after that we can enjoy maybe a home cooked meal sometime tonight?" She said trying to sound like she was not really asking a question but making more of a suggestion.

Then there was a knock at the door and Jesse let himself in. "Alright it's your first day let's get you the full tour and get you introduced to where you job will be in our community." He said smiling holding a cup of coffee. It's like this guy can't go anywhere without a drink in his hand. Mia came over and gave me a hug and smiled and walked out of the RV and quietly said "I love you" and left me and Jesse alone there. I got up and walked outside with him to see a bunch of people either cleaning the outsides of RVs or putting away big bags of whatever.

"So here is the basic living area where most of the families live and of course you two." He then led me past an area where a group of people were making blankets and fixing clothing for others. Each area had a different group of people either repairing something that the community needed or just simply cleaning around the colony to ensure safety for the children. It was very well thought out for the colony to assign jobs to all. Women and men were fixing peoples RV's and some people were doing mass amounts of laundry.

"Look as you know we care for everyone in this colony. And Mia has made a great contribution to this colony with her knowledge of this area and what has helped us regain some new hope towards the safety of our residents. We are currently getting attacked by these people who know our location and are constantly breaking in and stealing supplies or taking people in exchange for things we have that they don't." Jesse said while he walked me to a group of gentleman getting dressed in pretty much all tan clothing.

"This is who I want you to work with." Jesse said and shook the hands of one of the guys. "This is Hector he is our head supply runner. He knows how to get in and out of places fast and efficiently." I looked at him and he nodded and shook my hand.

"Don't worry boss. I'll show him the ropes. We are doing a run now but we got to get going as soon as possible. Last time we made a trip we saw those bandits out past the city roads." Hector said very seriously as he strapped on a few guns to his waist.

"Sounds good, I'll see you later this evening Lucas. Have Fun." Jesse patted my shoulder and walked off.

"Alright man first off take these and change out of those khakis. You need to be able to move and move fast." He handed me some jeans and a tan shirt. "We will find you some cargos hopefully in one of the houses we hit today. But anyway what's your name, bro?" Hector said everything fairly quickly.

"Lucas." I said.

"Alright cool, now head over there change and come back. You got some school today." Hector laughed and got back to what he was doing.

After I changed there wasn't much conversation when I got back to them. I was handed a backpack and then a small 9 mm pistol. We then got into the back of the somewhat older SUV and drove off the complex of the colony that they put together. It got smaller in the distance as we drove away and I could see that they had a makeshift wall out of broken-down vehicles and people standing on RV's that were keeping watch at all angles. It was safe to a point but I still could see why they could get hit by people wanting to take things away from them.
