I wanted to plant a tree.
Nothing more
Nothing less.
Nothing special-
No fruit to feed a nation
Or sap to flavour some pancakes.
But no one wanted a tree
Trees can't do anything special.
They don't build houses
Or end poverty
I wanted to plant a bush.
Nothing more
Nothing less.
This one was to be special
It would have berries to pick
It could feed a nation.
But people get greedy
They take what they shouldn't have.
So my bush was burned
Only this time to the ground.
I wanted to plant a flower.
Nothing more
Nothing less.
This flower was to be like every other flower
Giving what it had
And taking what it needed
But people pick flowers
And they tear away their petals.
So a flower is useless.
I wanted to plant something.
Nothing more
Nothing less.
Something that can be appreciated
That can tower above the rest.
But people are afraid of something.
And something is afraid of them.
So why should I bother,
If something should never take a breath?
