The sea of darkness wouldn't disappear. I felt so cold, and I couldn't get any warmer. I couldn't feel if I was laying down, still holding N's chain, or even on land at all. Or alive.
Then I felt a slightly warmer object on my cheek, which felt like a hand. I thought I was back in the evil clutches of the three teams. Or however many there were at this point. Then I felt a warm surface come underneath me. This entire thing could be a dream, and I'm back at home.
Then I heard a muffled voice, whom sounded like a male. I could be in the hospital, with Calem, and I'm in a coma. Then I felt the hand grab mine, and then I felt an object come out of my release.
No. I was still alive, on that beach, with N. And he's alive. The voice was getting clearer, and I could hear his voice.
"Kaley? Please no. You lived this long! You can't die now! YOU CAN'T!"
"N-Natural?" I asked as I opened my eyes. When I fully opened them, he looked shocked. It was either I said his full first name, or I'm alive. I went with the first one.
I sat up quickly, "I-I'm sorry! I-I was m-making sure-"
"No, it's fine. It's just- no one calls me by my first name."
I bit my lip, Damn it, I made a mistake! I thought.
He held up the chain. "Where did you find this? It fell of when we hit the water."
"I found it in the water." N smiled as he unhooked the thing that held it together, like a necklace. He put it around my neck.
"N- I can't take this."
"You may. We may be separated someday, and I want you to have that so you can remember me by. If I'm struggling to find it, I'll know you have it."
I started crying as I hugged him. That was the sweetest thing anyone has said. I let go quickly.
"I-I'm sorry about what happened on Mt. Pyre. Now everyone thinks-"
"No, it's fine." N looked in the direction of the lair.
"I can now show my 'dad' who the real freak without the human heart is." I looked around, realizing Mew was gone.
"Where's-?" I asked as she appeared. I grabbed her as she snuggled up in my arms.
"You seem to love her." N said.
"Not as much as you." I whispered under my breath.
"Hm?"
"Oh, nothing. Let's er- hurry back. I think Steven is worried."
"Yes, we should." N said as he got up. He looked over at me, and held out his hand to help me up. I grabbed his hand and slowly got myself up. I felt a little dizzy, as we walked back to the lab.
