I FINALLY UPDATED!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I nearly choked on surprise when my angry tirade was interrupted by an unexpected pressure on my lips. All of a sudden Kai was pressed against me, arms wrapped around my waist and kissing me fervently. My first thought was to push him away and punch him, but after a second or two I began to relax, against my better judgement. My head spun and warmth tingled up my spine. The kiss was feverish, intense and heated, it had caught me completely by surprise. This kiss was nothing like my ex-boyfriend's sloppy and saliva-filled attempts (eww) no, this kiss could be felt right down to my core. Slowly, I felt the darkness that had harnessed me for so long begin to lift. His hands roamed down my waist and I leaned further into him, it had been so long that I had had any physical contact with someone, that I was craving human touch. Unfortunately harsh reality came rushing back to me and I pushed him away, I felt slightly embarrassed about the way my body protested at the movement."What was that?" I asked breathlessly, stumbling back slightly to get some personal space. Kai looked up at me with wide eyes, his face showing just as much surprise as mine probably did.
"I um..." He stuttered and his arm went up to scratch his head awkwardly. The anger in me slowly ebbed away at the cute gesture and I took a moment to appreciate his partially-illuminated figure, the moon enhancing the defined angles of his face.
The moment was ruined by an intense burning on my forearm. I let out a wince and pressed my other hand as tightly as I could over the mark, hoping to ease the pain. It had happened a few times before, but I still hadn't gotten used to it.
Kai seemed to have caught the miniscule moment because his forehead creased knowingly and like my actions had caused him pain."I uh, gotta go." Stepping away I turned around, hating myself when I felt a little sadness at having to go. But he needed me, and I ought not to keep him waiting. But I hadn't gone far before a hand seized my shoulder and turned me around, Kai stood there looking down at me with sadness and regret. Had the kiss been that bad? Did he regret it? Why couldn't he just let me go?
"You don't have to go Anna, please... I can't see you get hurt again." Kai pleaded and kept his restraining hand on my shoulder.
"You don't understand though! I have no choice!" I didn't want to leave either, but even now I was sure to be in hot water as soon as I got back.
"Everyone has a choice." He ground out, but his sentence left me feeling angry. How would he know anything? He doesn't know what I would go through if I stayed. He would know what the pain of his wrath felt like. A glare settled on my forehead.
"Yeh? Well I don't. Not all of us have that luxury." I spat.I could feel the darkness filling me again, covering the exposed parts of my soul. I was sure that by now my eyes were a startling crimson. It was time to get out of here. Forcing Kai's hand off me, I did a quick turn and left him standing there on the lookout alone.
The soft tap of my work shoes against the smooth-worn cobbles was the only sound that penetrated the emptiness of the Hogwarts corridor. The hollow and familiar feeling of worry was permanently embedded in my chest, and until Anna came home and was safe in our arms, I don't think it would ever go away. The hospital wing was quiet this week, so was the whole family. Each member of the family was assigned a teacher, to help train them up with everything magical. Jasper with the History professor, professor Binns, Alice with Madame Trelawney assisting in providing a new viewpoint on fortune and future telling. Thankfully the peculiar woman had taken an instant liking to our busiest member of the family. Emmet was spending the day with Madame Hooch, the competitiveness of Quidditch completely appealing to his nature. Edward, Bella and Esme stayed in London to keep in closer contact with the order. Nessie had made an unexpected relationship with the strict Professor McGonagall who had kindly decided to give her small tutoring lessons about magic.
All these served for great distractions, but there were many times in the day that our minds turned to our youngest daughter and the familiar, ever-present feeling of helplessness remind us that we still had a family member in danger somewhere out there.
I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn't hear the second year student rushing towards me down the corridor calling my name. A startling thought considering the strength of all my senses.
"Sir!! Doctor Cullen! You're wanted in the headmasters office!" The child panted out breathlessly as he skidded to a halt in front of me.
"Thank you." I nodded and he turned around, jogging back the direction he had come. I quickened my pace until I was standing before the large stone gargoyle.
"Bertie Botts." As soon as the words left my mouth, the statue began turning, allowing me to enter.
Raising my fist, I knocked sharply on the heavy oak door of Dumbledore's office.
"Enter."
Pushing it open I stepped inside, still immediately mesmerised by the intricacies of the ornaments adorning the walls and shelves of the office. But my eyes didn't have long to stray as they were almost immediately drawn to the wise old man seated behind his desk. Never had I ever come across a mortal who was wiser than me, but there was no doubt in my mind that Albus Dumbledore knew more than any library book or ancient text could tell him, even if he were able to memorise ever little piece of information.
"Doctor Cullen." The old man smiled and gestured for me to take a seat.
"Headmaster." I nod.
"I believe that you were present at the meeting between your youngest daughter and the other order members?"
"Yes, I was."
"Then you were given an extensive briefing in our current situation?" I nodded and he continued.
"I don't know if you remember, but just after Annabelle was pulled from the battlefield with the Vampire governors, the Volturi I think they call themselves?" All I do is nod, dumbfounded by the extent of his knowledge. How could he know all this?
"There was a young man, was there not, that made an appearance during the time you were debating to inject Miss Thomas with the venom?" Again I nod, confused where this was leading.
"Who was he?"
"That, Mr Cullen is something I have just discovered, and thought it prudent to tell you right away, but I am afraid that it is not all good news. That young man's name is Kai Hayle. He is a mysterious person, not much is know of him except that he is a recent member of the Volturi guard. His ethnicity is unknown, but vampire is doubtful. Have you heard of him before?" I shake my head in confusion.
"No, never. I am surprised that I haven't, I know nearly every member of the Volturi, but I have never heard of him. Why are you telling me this?" The old man looked at me with a twinkle in his eye like he knew things I didn't, which wasn't all that surprising.
"Mr Hayle, I believe, is a very central player in this war, I know it seems like a big call but alas it is true. He is they key to Anna's freedom." At this I grew even more confused.
"How so?" I inquire, this could be the break we've been waiting so long for.
"Anima socium."~ Annabelle ~
The meeting room was full by the time that I stepped in, I quickly spotted the seat reserved for me and sat down. I didn't know what the meeting was about, so was curious when my father spoke up.
"Dear followers, it has been a successful recent time for us, our numbers are rapidly growing and the power we hold is strengthening. I cannot take all the credit for this work, for I could not have done it without you." Many people puffed out hybrid chest in arrogant self-importance while others just kept their gaze steadily in the silky oak conference table.
"That is why we have such strong beliefs about cutting down those who threaten our position of power. Now, there is very few people that are capable of such a feat, but when one such person is discovered, it is treated quickly and with a serious nature." This speech profoundly confused me, had one of these people been found? Are they here now?
"I know that you are all wondering what I'm talking about, to answer all your questions, I will bring our guest out." My father raised a pale and bony hand and gestured to the people either side of the door to open it. Three people entered, two of them dragging a man in the middle. The ones who were dragging the man wore Death Eater garb while the other wore a vaguely familiar outfit. He was walked right up to the opposite end of the long conference table where everyone had made room.
"Say hello to our temporary guest, and make sure you make him feel welcome." Then the man looked up at everyone, and then at me. I could barely breathe at who I saw.Kai.
