'What's wrong, Chlo?'
'Can we sit down and talk?'
'Yeah, definitely'
Apprehensive of what she was about to be told, (Beca always worried about Chloe, no matter the situation or time), Beca took a seat on the sofa, the redhead joining her.
'So...I went on my date with Joel', Chloe began quietly. 'We were having a totally amazing pizza and a good time together in general...'
Gently, the brunette questioned, 'What happened?'
'He asked me if I wanted us to be official'
Instantly, Beca felt as if she had been punched in the chest. If the time she was spending with her best friend was already dwindling, it would certainly drop if she started a relationship with Joel. Perfect, perfect Joel.
'What's the problem? That's a good thing', she said, looking down at her intertwined fingers and holding her jealousy back for Chloe's sake.
'I didn't- I can't- I said no to him', Chloe confessed.
A flash of hope came over Beca. 'How come?'
'I'm scared...I don't want to commit to him'
'Maybe he's just not right for you', the brunette replied as she put a comforting arm around her back and pulled her closer. She found it strange that Chloe, who was as loyal as can be, couldn't commit to a relationship, but she wasn't about to question it.
'He's so sweet...', Chloe sighed, 'I feel terrible for not wanting him'
'Don't', Beca told her, 'You don't owe him anything'
'We're still going to date', revealed Chloe, 'But we're taking things slowly'
Frustrated, Beca took a deep breath. She couldn't bear the thought of her best friend- soulmate?- settling for someone because she would feel guilty if she didn't. Moreover, she couldn't bear the thought of her with anyone else but herself.
'Come on', the DJ declared, 'I'm running you a bath, and you're going to relax and clear your head'
Standing up, Beca offered out a hand to a faintly-smiling Chloe, then took her upstairs. As the redhead got undressed in her bedroom, Beca drew a warm bath, complete with soothing, lavender-scented bath salts.
'Thank you', Chloe said gratefully, standing in the door frame in her bathrobe.
'I'll get the new season of "86" ready for us'
With that, Beca left the girl to enjoy her bath while she got changed into her pyjamas- a raglan shirt with maroon sleeves and a pair of navy shorts and white socks. After this, she went downstairs to set up blankets in the lounge, then to work on a mix.
-----------------------------------------------------------
An hour later, Chloe strolled into the lounge with a crimson vest top and a matching pair of plaid pyjama bottoms, looking much more relaxed. As soon as Beca clocked her appearance, she put her laptop on the coffee table and reached for the TV remote. The favourite show of theirs was about to start, so she got herself comfortable on the sofa and invited Chloe to join her.On her way over, the redhead swept her newly-dried hair to one shoulder. Beca lay on her side against the back of the furniture, waiting for her 'cuddle buddy', as she often referred to her, (not aloud, of course).
'How was your bath?', asked Beca, lifting the blanket.
'It was amazing, thank you', Chloe smiled appreciatively as she slipped underneath it and lay with her spine facing Beca, leaving an inch of space between the two of them.
