True Love even After Being Drunk

Pay no mind to how stupid the title is. Shhh....

"Gajeel, you're gonna end up falling asleep right on top of the table again if you keep drinking. And I don't want to have carry you all the way to the other side of the guild hall for the fifth night in a row!" Levy complained.

Gajeel rolled his eyes, drinking finished yet another mug of booze.

"I don't fall asleep, Shrimp," he grumbled.

"Try telling the others that..." Levy muttered under her breath.

The iron dragon slayer weighed a ton, because, he was, well... the iron dragon slayer, Gajeel Redfox.

Levy McGarden was a short but smart bluenette whose guild Gajeel had joined not so long ago, along with the water mage Juvia Locksar.

"Gajeel, please, lay out on the booze... we're running out with you and Cana drinking so much lately, not forgetting to include the master!" Mira pleaded, which was unusual for even her naturally sweet and kind self.

"Gajeel, it isn't like you to drink like this," Levy finally noted aloud, "and you've been at it for the past few nights! Is something wrong?"

Gajeel looked away, his eyes showing the same hard and steely expression they always do.

The tall boy picked Levy up by the white ribbon of her orange dress and began to take her outside with him.

"H-hey! Gajeel, put me down!!" Levy exclaimed as bravely as her fragile voice could.

"Gihi... ye're cute when you try ta act all tough like that," Gajeel chuckled.

Levy's face turned a bright red and she felt nervousness fill up in her stomach.

Soon, they were outside, on the top of a hill.

Gajeel set the short bookworm down, crossing his arms like he usually did when he was standing up.

Levy nearly choked.

"This view... i-it's breathtaking. How'd you find this spot, Gajeel?" She asked in astonishment.

Then she gasped, "How far are we from the guild?!"

"Nothin' for you t' worry 'bout. I'll carry ya all the way back there," Gajeel grinned.

Levy crossed her arms.

She tried to stay mad at the dragon slayer, but the colors that the sunset illuminated upon the two was too peaceful for her to stay angry for long.

Then realisation hit her in the face.

"Why did you bring me here, Gajeel?" Levy asked gently.

"Didn't'cha ask me if some'n' was wrong?" Gajeel replied.

"Oh, yeah! So... what is wrong?"

"Well, Shrimp... I've been meanin' t' ask ya... d'ya know what love means, exactly?" Gajeel asked, looking slightly embarrassed.

Levy was taken aback with shock.

Her kind, brown eyes glittered under the remaining sunlight and she smiled, "Love could be anything. It could be friendly love, family love, and... well... love connecting two soul mates. Love has no definite meaning. It's most certainly a challenge..."

Gajeel nearly forgot that he could talk because he was so lost in what Levy had told him.

"Well, when ya get this weird feelin' in yer chest or yer stomach, 's that mean ye're in love?" Gajeel asked.

"I guess. Why, have you been feeling that way about anybody?" Levy asked.

"Dunno if it's just the alcohol kickin' in, but... yeah. Been feelin' that way about you," the dragon slayer answered.

The faintest shade of red dusted his cheeks.

"Aaww- wait, what?!"

Before Levy could comprehend what Gajeel had just said, he bent down and placed a quick peck on her lips.

Levy's face brightened again, and in those final moments before the sun went down for good, she gathered up the courage to kiss Gajeel passionately on the lips.

It was short and sweet, and when she pulled away, a smile was on her face.

"I love you, too, ya big ol' lug!"
