*Andromeda POV*
I have always enjoyed the first day of school, especially when you had been at the school the previous year. Not only could you have the chance to meet someone from the year before, but there were plenty of new faces that held potential. I had even had the pleasure of meeting someone new who had been there before, although he wasn't my taste. Too nerdy.
Luckily I was able to see some promising gentlemen on my way to my dorm at Thebes. I was so glad this year that I was on the first floor, because nothing sucks more than coming home from a party and having conquer a flight of stairs.
I found my room quickly, and I was happy to see that I was the first one there. This gave me the opportunity to have first dibs at which bed I wanted. There were a total of three beds per dorm, which gave me three different options. One of the beds was right next to the bathroom, which would be nice to be able to go directly into the shower when I woke up. However one of the other beds was next to the biggest closet, which I would probably end up needing. I finally decided on the closet over the bathroom, because I would hate hearing people in there while I slept. My vanity and suitcases had already been brought by earlier.
I decided to get a head start on my unpacking. I took my makeup bag over to my vanity and began arranging it by area of the face it was used. When I finished I closed up the bag and put it under the vanity. I started putting away clothes when a man walked carrying a suitcase and duffel, followed by a petite girl. Her dark chocolate hair was cut neatly into a bob, with bangs cut straight across her forehead. Her eyes were a sort of mossy brown color, that popped because of her plain cream blouse and soft coral skirt. When she saw me a squeal escaped her lips and she ran over.
"Hi, I'm Io. I'm going to be your roommate this year!" she squealed.
"Glad to meet you. I'm Andromeda. I've already chosen my bed, so you can choose from whatever is left," I said.
"Thanks. Oh Dad, you can just sit my bags on the bed by the window," Io said. I watched as Io's dad sat her bags down. Io kissed him on the cheek and hugged him before he left. "Hey Andromeda, do you mind if I play some music while we unpack?" Io asked.
"Go ahead," I answered. Soon Io and I were singing along to Adele's latest album, each of us taking turns gushing about the others wardrobe.
We finished unpacking right before noon, so we decided to go to the cafeteria for lunch. I kept asking Io questions about herself, and she returned with just as many questions.
"So... Are there any guys that catch your interest?" I asked Io.
"Well, there is one guy who I think is really hot, but you can't tell a soul," Io answered. I made the motion that my lips were sealed. "Okay. Around the beginning of summer I worked as a camp counselor at this camp. While I was there I got to get to know this really sweet guy. We started talking more, until finally I worked up the courage to write him a note telling him that I liked him. The next day he was gone. When I asked my supervisor what had happened to him, he told me that family issues had come up and he had to leave early," I explained.
"Oh, honey, I'm so sorry. Do you know if he goes here?" I asked, gingerly.
"Definitely not. He goes to Olympus Prep, which is about 30 minutes away," I said. "The suckiest part is that I don't even know if he felt the same way or not."
"Do you know his phone number?" I asked. She shook her head sadly. "Do you know what his name is? Maybe I've heard of him."
"Probably. He's the quarterback at Olympus Prep. His name is Zeus," Io answered.
"I'm sorry, I don't know him. Well, after hearing that, I think we both deserve an ice cream." Io smiled at me.
"I think that would be perfect," she answered. We ditched our path to the school and started heading towards town. I was waiting in line to get us both cones, while Io found us a seat. I chose a Pineapple Orange sherbet, and got Io a cone of Cookie Dough Crunch. I walked back towards the table. Suddenly I found myself falling forward, my face approaching the ground at what felt like Terminal Velocity. Until I felt a yank against my arm as someone caught me. I opened my eyes to see who caught me. The face I looked into seemed as glorious as an angel. He had warm brown eyes and large white teeth glued into a permanent smile. The sun glared off his head reflecting the beautiful face of my rescuer.
"Thank you," I answered bashfully.
"It's fine, but you seemed to have lost one of your cones. Let me go and get you another one," I responded.
"It's fine, you don't have to do that," I said.
"Yes I do," he answered. He ordered me a new cone, while I brought Io her cone. She had a playful gleam in her eye as I walked back to the hero who had caught me. "Here." He gave me the new cone, his large black hands brushing my delicate pale ones.
"Thank you for catching me. I'm Andromeda," I said.
"Well Andromeda, I will always catch you when you fall," he answered. He started to walk away before I ran over to stop him.
"Wait, you didn't even tell me your name."
"My name's Perseus."
