*Daedalus POV*
Over the last two weeks at Mythology High, time seemed to breeze by. I was able to get along well with most of my teachers, and only one class was proving a challenge. History. I had Mr. Taur for history and I just couldn't understand his method of teaching. Any battle or event he tied to a special event in sports, believing that "History is the understanding of events, and Sports is a strategic event that can be understood by history". Honestly his special motto, and all the references just confused me more. It wasn't helpful that a bunch of football players were in my class and Mr. Taur was the coach. Currently we were studying the differences in storytelling over the course of history. I tried to take notes until I got lost at the mention of cavemen telling stories around a campfire as being similar to a coach giving out a play.
"In order for you all to understand the importance of storytelling I have decided to assign a special project to further your understanding. You will be assigned a partner and together you will be given a form of storytelling and an event in sports history and at the end of the week you will present your form for the class." I rolled my eyes. Not only was it about sports, but I knew whatever partner I got would make me do all the work.
"I already have all the partners assigned," Mr. Taur said, beginning reading off the list. "... Echo and Paris, Bellephron and Actaeon, and finally Daedalus and Atlanta." I looked over at my partner. At the current moment she was disassembling her pen and putting it back together. She didn't bother looking up, but I knew she could feel my stares. Not the worst partner, but not the greatest. I knew Atlanta was known for her bragging. Mr. Taur began walking around with two hats, one for the form and one for the event. I pulled out of the form hat and saw the printed ink staring back at me. Hieroglyphics. Okay, I can work with that. I saw Atlanta pull out of the sports hat and flashed it at me. Jesse Owens and the 1936 Olympic Games. Okay, I can do this, as long Atlanta doesn't get in my way. I began envisioning my creation. I felt a shoulder press into mine.
"Hey, Daedalus, would you mind getting a head start on the project. I have no time today because I have cross-country practice, but I promise I will help work on it," Atlanta asked. I could tell she didn't really want to work on the project and was trying to make an excuse with cross-country, but since I did not really want her help anyway, I was more than willing to agree.
"That's fine with me. I can make it, and you can present it on Friday," I offered.
"Sounds good with me," she said. She gave me a smile before put her headphones on. I began sketching what I wanted Jesse Owens to look like in the picture. If I got lucky I might be able to convince Icarus to allow me to use his design program on his computer to make it look really good. I looked around and saw everyone else in their groups, excitedly sharing ideas with one another. I glanced over at Atlanta who was drumming along with the song she was listening to, headphones covering any noise. I began working again, but not before I heard the classroom door opening. I watched as Cassandra came in and handed Mr. Taur a note. He took care of it, but I watched as Cassandra walked to the doors. Right before she left, she gave me a little wave that caused me to blush.
"Looks like someone has an admirer," Atlanta said, nudging me in a comedic way. I glared at her and she instantly stopped. I looked back at the paper I had been working on. No matter how much I pushed Cassandra from my head she always showed up to occupy my thoughts. I guess I would have to try a little harder to push her out.
A/N
Sorry it's so short, but I wanted to do a not too couple-y scene. I hope to post again soon, but I don't know when it will happen. We will see how Daedalus keeps pushing Cassandra away, and maybe we will see why he broke it off. Oh well, we will see how that goes.
