Chapter Five: part II
River Quinn
I had decided to come to the party after all but on the way to the beach I got a bit lost. And the worst part was that this beach was the only one around for miles so obviously it had to be this one. I tried calling that Hazel girl who had invited me but her phone went right into voicemail and just when I started to lose hope, I saw the light.
No seriously. I looked up ahead and saw the orange glow of the bonfire that was further down the beach. Another thing I saw was a girl who seemed to be walking in the opposite direction of the party. That seemed odd, especially since I had been walking from that direction and all I had seen were rocks and the blue ocean. What reason could she have to be walking here alone when it was this late?
The girl really baffled me and it spiked my curiosity.
She suddenly turned around and started heading back towards the party seeming to realize that it was lonely out here.
“Hey! Wait up” I called after her and jogged to catch up with her. But instead of waiting she sped up her pace. Then it hit me. She was alone out here, it was dark and there was a guy running after her. Boy I must have come off as a creeper. Despite her long legs she didn’t seem to run very fast and I easily caught up with her. I placed my hand on her shoulder and she freaked out.
“Back off! I have pepper spray and I’m not afraid to use it!” she yelled trying to seem menacing. But the tremble in her voice didn’t help much.
“Hey calm down I just wanted to know if the party was this way” I said taking my hand off her shoulder. Her body relaxed instantly.
“It is” she told me and kept walking but I kept up with her easily. And that was how I began to get to know her.

After grabbing a beer from Hazel, I decided to go find Nirvana. Hazel tried to persuade me to dance with her but from the way she swayed and her breath it wasn’t hard to decipher that she was drunk. Really drunk. And drunken girls are so not attractive. That was actually a complete turn off for me. So I subtlety ditched her and went in search of Nirvana.
I found her sitting alone on a rock looking out into the ocean.
I took a seat beside her and started up a conversation. She warned me about her reputation as a freak and told me that I shouldn’t hang with her if I didn’t want my reputation ruined too. This only increased my curiosity in her. Why did everyone think she was a freak? She seemed pretty normal to me. I considered the fact that she might be saying this to make me go away but she looked like she was enjoying my company.
Halfway through the conversation a blonde dude who seemed to be seriously trashed waddled his way over to us. He plopped down next to Nirvana and had goofy grin on his face. Thinking it was some random drunken douche I was ready to tell the guy to get lost when I heard her ask him if he was ok. Apparently she knew him. By the concern in her tone I concluded it was someone she knew very well. Maybe a boyfriend?
She had been alone all night so I had automatically deduced that she had come alone but she was too beautiful to be single. Damn.
“You know you’re really pretty Ana banana. Will you marry me?” the guy slurred in her ear. Yep, definitely a boyfriend.
“Will what are you-“ but before she could finish the sentence ‘Will’ smashed his lips to hers. I turned away not wanting to witness a make out session between the girl I had my eye on and the drunk idiot.
