Chapter 30: Priorities

‘Women’s happiness begins with her first love and ends about then’ –Emma Goldman

Nirvana Evans

If you asked me a couple of days ago how my life was doing I would have told you it was surprisingly doing great. However if you asked me right now you’d get a completely different answer. The love of my life was mad at me which only resulted in getting ignored and my only friend was more interested in hooking up with me than hanging out. Will had apologized countless times for the misunderstanding he had caused between River and I but for some reason I suspected he was more than happy about it.

I was so desperate to have River back that I went as far as to beg Will to try and explain what happened to him since he wouldn’t hear me out. After hours of trying to persuade him he finally agreed, rather reluctantly.

So that was why I was currently sitting inside Will’s car parked in front of Tara’s house. This was so not my idea of a great Sunday morning. Since the car had tinted windows I could watch the scene play out in front of me without risking being caught spying on them. The only downside to this plan was that I couldn’t hear anything. Of course I could crack the window down an inch and fix my problem. My nerves were on edge and I was anxious. Would River believe him? Would he forgive me? Would he take me back? I missed him so much. I hoped with everything I had that Will convinced him of what really had taken place that morning.

I watched through the window as Will rang the doorbell and waited.

If my life was a movie there would be suspenseful music playing in the background. It seemed like an eternity before anyone answered the door and to my utter disappointment, it wasn’t River. Instead Ms. Quinn, River’s mom, answered the door with a big smile. She seemed a bit confused as she realized who exactly it was. A few seconds passed before she nodded enthusiastically and both her and Will disappeared through the door.

No! no, no, no. How was I going to know what was happening if I couldn’t see or hear anything?! Damn.

I waited a few minutes until the suspense was getting to be too much. I looked all around before I hastily slid out of the car and cautiously approached the house. Would they be in the living room? Or perhaps River’s bedroom? That would complicate things for me since I didn’t know where his room was located. Seeing as this was a two story house it was probably on the second floor and I couldn’t very well reach it. I prayed they were talking in the living room as I got to the window in my target.

I cautiously peeked in and got a glimpse of both Will’s blonde head and River’s dark one. I could tell they were chatting from the movement of their mouths but I had no clue as to what was being said. It was too bad the window only opened from inside. I gave up trying to budge the window and simply stared at River. He looked a bit tired with shadows under his eyes and his hair was a bit messy as if he had just woken up. Still with all of his imperfections I couldn’t help but admire his beauty. He was drool worthy. How could I had lost my chance with him?

No! I refused to believe this was the end of us. It couldn’t be.

River must have sensed that someone was staring at him because he whipped his head in my direction and quicker than lightning I ducked down behind a big bush. Phew, I whipped the metaphorical sweat from my forehead and sighed. I was really starting to feel like a stalker now. All I needed was some equipment and I was set.
