"tonight's homework will consist of completing workbook pages: 666-679. you must show your work on notebook sheets of paper and staple it together when you turn them in tomorrow.

"you have exactly 10 minutes to work on this in class with a partner. get to work."

i roll my eyes and turn my textbook open not even in the mood to talk to anyone. i twirl my pencil around my finger and begin my work when a girl sprints up to me.

"hey."

she breathes hard and pulls up a chair beside me. she doesn't have any of her work and i'm confused on why she even came over here.

"hey, zoë right?"

"yes."

i say, looking at her briefly before continuing my work.

"good. so, i just wanted to congratulate you on completely slaying jade's ass at the party. even though you did end up soaken wet in the pool. lol."

did she just say the word 'lol'?
i look at her furrowing my eyebrows before lightly nodding hoping she'd leave soon.
instead, she pats my back and smiles before introducing herself, like i even want to know who she is.

"ariel, that's my name. we should hang out now, you know. since we both despise jade."

"why do you hate her?"

i ask her, tilting my head towards her. i didn't despise jade as much as i thought she was a bitch, but it didn't affect me nearly as much as it affected... ariel?

"well, this is between us only- understood?"

i give her a confused look and shrug. i assure her that i won't tell anyone, but i know it's a lie because i will most likely confront jade about it later.

"jade's completely fake, completely. i dated grayson before anyone did. like, back in the summer before freshman year. and jade found out and drugged him! she fucking drugged him.

"she took his virginity, zoe. i'm the only person that knows that! and she's getting back with him because she's obsessed. obsessed.

"when she found out she took his virginity she went balistic. she apparently forced him to make a de-"

she was interrupted. i shut my books closed and tucked them under my arm. it was time to dismiss and i believed almost everything that ariel had said.

i wanted to know more, but i couldn't because this was the only class i had with her. i frown and she does as well.

"hey, i'll tell you the rest tomorrow. the story only gets better."

she then walks over to her desk, collects her books, and leaves the classroom as if nothing had just happened. yet, to me- my whole world had just changed.
