"spin the bottle in the basement, that's a must."

i grip onto jay's hand as he guides me downstairs and to the basement, my grip on him tightens as darkness takes over my sight and i am blind. i hear faint groans from people who are standing along the rails of the staircase. the stench of cigarette smoke lingers there as we pass.

i keep my hand firmly in jay's and the other on the wall. when i no longer feel the descending steps beneath me i know we are as far down as we can go. i try to look down at my feet and see empty cigarette packs and lighters laid out lazily against the carpet. broken glass bottles are littering the floors as well.

there is only a single dimly lit light bulb hanging loosely above us. we continue down various hallways and corridors. the only positive side of this horrific seven-hundred-mile journey is the perfect view of jay's glistening back muscles which are very plain to see considering he's shirtless.

we continue walking for what feels like ages and the light that used to help me see where he is guiding me is now out of my view. i can hear only the low bass from the music upstairs and my jagged breathes. then, i am standing still and in dead silence. i hear nothing, and see nothing. and suddenly i feel nothing.

i instantly feel like helen keller. i instinctively hold my hands out desperate for something i can hold onto. my hand hits a wall and i trail against it until they hit a cold metal door. my fingers fumble with the slick doorknob and my sweaty palms don't give me any justice.

eventually, i am able to pry the door open. i stick my head in and look up instantly at the light that blesses me with the ability to see, however i wish it hadn't. once i look down i see grayson and mystery girl making out. i furrow my eyebrows, confused on how i couldn't hear the disgusting sound of spit being swapped.

i slam the door shut and knock on the wall outside, not hearing a thing. soundproof walls. i breathe in quickly and try to brush away the image that still lingers in my mind. as i run my fingers through my hair, i feel someone's hand on the small of my back.

"hey, you good?"

i breathe a sigh of relief with the realization that it is jay's voice that welcomes me. i nod, holding jay's hand back in mine. as we continue walking, the sudden sound of laughter makes me jolt. we turn one last corridor before we hit a door. jay knocks on it a total of six times before the noise behind it stops.

"who is it?" a fake feminine voice draws out.

"bitch, you know who it is."

laughter erupts as the door swings open and fluorescent lights nearly blind me. jay guides me into a room that's filled with booze and beanbag chairs and chips. there's bryson tiller (fmu) playing in the background and laughs heard all around.

jay daps up his friends before introducing me to them. there were eleven of them, in total- thirteen including us. they said they were waiting for a couple more people to show up and then they would start the game. as they talked i took a seat in a purple plush beanbag chair. (hehehe)

jay moved over to sit beside me and his friends joined around. he was joking around with some blonde guy named auston and a really hippie girl named alara. they were twins. i was surprised i had never heard of them before from school. i slightly turned and looked at some of the potential kissing mates i would have.

there was only one person i recognized, and they were from my study hall. it was a boy and his name was derek. i wasn't sure if he knew who i was, but when we made eye contact, i smiled and he looked away. i was suddenly drawn out of my thoughts by the sound of six knocks on the door. we all turned our heads and faced it.

auston mimicks the sound we heard earlier and a girl replies.
"if you don't open this fucking door."

everyone laughs including me, and another girl opens the door. when the door is opened a blonde girl is revealed along with- grayson? he stands there with mystery girl and smiles as they walk in. jay gives me a confused glance and i only shrug before drawing my attention to the beautifully blank wall in front of me.

my heart beats excessively as everyone moves their beanbag chairs into a circle. my conscience is telling me that this was all a set up and that they were just doing this to scream at me for doing what i did to grayson and suddenly i realize i am sweating. i am way too paranoid to even function right now.

and just as jay is about to start the game and spin the bottle, grayson looks at me. looking into his eyes i see the ruthless fuckboy that i saw before any of this ever happened. he is fully aware of what i am doing and he's trying to do it back to me. this was a game that i was no longer playing alone.

i look down at the bottle quickly, smirking to myself. spin the bottle may seem like just a stupid party game to him, but it was a clear advantage for me. let the games begin.
