A/N:
Sorry guys you probably want to skip past this authors note and just go straight into the story. Thanks for reading and please vote and comment if you think I deserve it for this chapter. Please let me know what you think, I love feedback!
This chapter is dedicated to crazydrama12 as she has been an excellent co-writer of Adventures In Paris. The next part will be up soon I've just been really busy so we won't be updating as often.
Wow, you guys are actually going to discover the truth. Just to be clear this definitely isn't the end of the story (I'm even thinking of doing a sequel) what do you think?
Thanks everyone- you guys rock!
-ELISHA! :D
"So, I guess I should begin by telling you who I am" Mr Mysterious began "I worked with the police force for two years. Whist we were on the Police force we had a 'wanted' criminal. This criminal was like no other. She was a killer. A murderer."
Me and Melanie gave each other confused looks. Did he mean Sharon when he said 'Killer'?
His hands clenched tighter around the steering wheel and he swivelled around a corner trying to multi-task. Driving and talking at the same time. "This criminal was like no other. She'd taken many lives. Important lives. Well, to cut a long story short I sort of got too attached to the case and I got suspended by one of my fellow officers. Me and this officer knew each other" he turned around another bend "and we lived together as flatmates. Well we had a massive row and he chucked me out-"
"What does this have to do with anything?" Asked Melanie, interrupting the intense conversation. I nudged her, she gave me a stern and puzzled look. "What?"
"Anyway" Mr Mysterious continued "That was when I decided that I didn't need the police force. I could punish her for everything she had done to those innocent people. I made a new life for myself, a new name. My old life is behind me now. That's when I did my research. Finding her workplace was hard but I started out several years ago and I'm now working my way up the hierarchy of importance. Sharon does, well did think of me as a highly respected colleague. That was all shattered when she suspected that something was wrong with me. Somehow she found out that I was planning revenge against her and that's where Joe comes into the story."
"Joe" I paused for a moment and then rolled my eyes.
"She has been on and off with Joe for years. Don't be deceived by his friendly demeanor- he has killed before too. Anyway, Sharon needed with his assistance with something so he came running back to her like a lost puppy. He's wanted to get back with her for years and she knew this so it was the perfect opportunity. The opportunity of a lifetime. Joe and Sharon came up with some sort of bet. I don't know much about it but I know you are both involved and so are your parents."
Me and Melanie paused. "So that's it?"
He nodded. "You know most of it now."
Most of it?
I was about to question him when I realised we were now driving down the city streets. The black van had somehow disappeared from behind us.
"How did you get rid of the van?" I asked, looking out of the back window.
He smirked. "I've always been a crazy driver Jess."
"Where the hell are we going?" I asked intently. Melanie looked at Mr Mysterious and waited for an answer.
"We're going to a Hotel I know of in the City" he said bluntly.
"Wouldn't it be safer to head out of the City?"
"It's too obvious" he said "they are probably convinced that we've escaped from New York City. We haven't though. Well- we aren't going to. You can't go back home either, its too dangerous.
I nodded as did Melanie. Fifteen minutes later we were outside a hotel at the other side of town. It was a run down place, nothing glossy. Everything was a brown colour. The roof, the ancient pillars. It was sort of like a temple from Ancient Greece. Only one that had been severely destroyed. We parked, got out and checked into a two bedroom hotel room. Once we were in I sat on the sofa and sat thinking.
Mr Mysterious sat next to me. "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm going in the kitchen to order takeout!" Exclaimed Melanie. We both nodded and then Mr Mysterious faced me again. "To repeat my earlier question, what are you thinking about?"
"You" I said simply.
He smirked. "I know you can't stop thinking about me Jess!" He teased.
I gave him a slightly sarcastic look. "I'm thinking about what you said to my earlier" his smile dropped "you said you were a criminal. Your little explanation in the car didn't sum up everything. Why were you so involved with the case?"
"It was personal to me because" he paused and let out a deep breath "promise you wont say this to anyone Jess but it was my mother and little sister, Jenny who got killed."
Oh my god. Sharon (or Joe) had killed his mother and his sister. For a moment I understood his extraordinary measures.
"That's why. One- one stupid day I lost it and followed Sharon home from the offices and saw where she lived. Anyway, the next day I went back and broke into her flat. She wasn't home but when she did arrive home she called the Police. They found footprints and tracked me down. One of my old buddies on the force, Craig, promised that he wouldn't tell Sharon it was me as a favour to a friend so she never found out. So that's why I was a criminal. I was in prison for two whole years. I have a record and everything. It's crazy. You never think of what you'll do in this situation until it actually happens to you and then your left lost and empty."
I nodded, understanding. "Why did you break into her house?"
"I wanted to find something that would prove she killed mum and Jenny."
"I'm sorry to ask but, but why did she kill them?"
He shrugged. "That's what I don't know Jess. You see my main priority now is to keep you and Melanie safe."
I smiled, feeling relieved for a moment.
"That's why the bounty hunter was with Sharon. He's a well known assassin" I gave him a serious look "yes, you heard me right Jess. He's been out to get me for ages. Sharon found out about my break in not long ago and she figured she'd get one of the best universal assassins to kill me. He calls himself a 'bounty hunter' but we both know what he's really doing. He's tracking me down, planning to kill for the money Sharon will give him."
He looked dead serious and I couldn't help but believe him. I wondered what was going to happen next, or who was going to approach us next.
How long would we be on the run? Forever?
(Find out in the next chapter!)
