Chapter Five: Devil In A Red Dress:
I took another deep breath as I pulled the wooden door open and wandered through the office, overwhelmed with the feeling of remembrance of my last job - repetition of this industry - not just the fashion world, but the editing world. With documents piled high, issues scattered around the room and certificates on the walls, I couldn't help but become reminded of my previous Boss, Kyle Tarbard's office.
I began by making small steps, steadying myself, trying to make a small impression before she assumed anything too pessimistic about me. But once I realised I was going far too slow I shuffled towards her desk, as fast as a superhero willing to save the damsel in distress. I gave her a quick glance and to my surprise she was flicking through a magazine, still totally oblivious to my presence and everyone around her, may I add.
"It's nice to meet you Mrs Sharline," I spoke with an upbeat tone, holding out my hand.
Instead of shaking my hand though she read through a magazine completely ignoring me. I left my hand hovering for several seconds before dropping it to my side awkwardly and sitting in the stylish chair opposite her desk.
She continued to read for another minute or so whilst I waited in an unbearable, recurring silence. After a moment she closed the magazine and sighed exasperatedly before facing me.
She didn't fit the image I pictured - she looked even younger and somehow more flattering. I was petrified that she might dismiss me or even mock me but we just sat in silence, surrounded by our own fears and doubts.
"Why do you want this job?" As she said this I jumped out of my skin. Literally. She frightened me so much that I held my hand on my heart.
"Erm yes. Well firstly let me introduce myself. My name is-"
She sighed. "I didn't ask you for your name, I asked you why you wanted a job. There is a difference......"
Then a year old pause took over.
"Well I have always had a passion for the fashion industry. I was inspired to become a designer by your outstanding designs. I have dreamt of this moment since I was a little girl. It would be an honour to work with you. I would be grateful to be considered for the job." I flashed her a smile, even though it wasn't that convincing...
