Austin's POV
I have been sitting with Ellie in her room all night. I have just been holding her hand. I am really scared because the gash on her head is huge and the doctors keep saying that she has lost a lot of blood. They are also really worried because some of her brain swelling is back. She has all these machines hooked up to her and she has the oxygen tube to help her breathe. This all reminds me of last year when she got into her car accident.
I had my head down and I was still holding her hand when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see that it was Jim.
"Austin you have been sitting here all night, go home and get some rest we will call you when she wakes up." He said gently
"No I am not leaving her, I'm not tired," I replied
"Well then you have to be hungry. Why don't you go to the cafeteria and get something to eat. I will sit with her." I nodded my head and let go of her hand. Before I walked out the door I turned around and looked at her one last time before leaving. I walked into the hallway to see Abby sleeping on Dave's shoulder and my mom rocking Gracie.
"Austin you didn't have to stay in there all night." Ellie's mom Lisa told me
"I know but I wanted to. I am going to the cafeteria do you guys want anything?" I asked them
"Could you bring Abby back a soft pretzal please? She was asking for one earlier." Lisa asked me
"Yeah sure." I said before walking away
The cafeteria is on the first floor and Ellie is in the intensive care unit which is on the fifth floor. I was rounding a corner when I saw Alex. Robert, Zach, Jackie, and Sarah. Sarah saw me first and ran up and gave me a hug she looked like she had been crying.
"Hey man how are you doing?" Zach asked me gently
"She looks worse then what she did the time she got into her car accident. And the worst part is she is unresponsive. I held her hand all night and it's like she feels it but you can tell she is not there." I said breaking down sobbing. Alex brought me in for a hug and I wiped my eyes.
"She is on the fifth floor room 317. I am going to the cafeteria to get some food you guys want anything?" I asked them. They all shook their heads no.
"Alright we will see you up there then." Robert said patting me on the back
It is really nice that everybody decided to come see Ellie. She is family to us and it really hurts to see her this way. I need her in my life I can't loose her now.
Ellie's POV
I was having a dream about the game and I saw me and the other girls head colliding and then there was a flash and I saw Jim wiping away blood and then I saw another flash and there was me sitting in my car and then another flash where I saw headlights coming towards me and then I saw a white light. I woke up and I could here the sound of machines beeping. I opened my eyes to see Jim holding Gracie, Abby and my mom crying, Sarah, Jackie, Zach, Robert, Alex, Michele, Dave, and Austin. Austin looked really tired and he looked like he had been crying.
"Mom?" I called out to her
"Hey sweetie you're ok baby girl you are ok." She said holding me and running her fingers through my hair
A woman in hospital clothes walked in and smiled at me "Ellie you are in the hospital you collided with another girl in your game and you lost a lot of blood and some of your brain swelling has come back. I am doctor Jane Moyer I will be taking care of you." She said checking my chart and all my vitals
"My head hurts Doctor." I said rubbing my head
"I can give you something for that, I will be right back." She said walking out of the room
"What are you guys all doing here? Arn't you guys supposed to be at college and arn't you supposed to be on your world tour?" I asked my friends in a hoarse voice
"Are you kidding we would much rather be here with you." Jackie said sitting next to me
"Yeah we needed to come visit you to see how you were doing." Sarah said sitting on my other side
"And my tour ended two days ago and I flew into Texas yesterday." Austin said stepping closer. He hasn't changed that much except he has gotten a little bit taller. He looks really tired though and washed out. I tried not to make eye contact with him though because seeing him after a year is bringing back memories of our breakup.
"Did we win the game?" I asked nobody in particular
"Yeah Ells you guys won the game." Alex said
That was the last thing I herd before drifting off to sleep again.
