Dylan’s POV
After the concert was over Austin said he wanted to take me out for a date night the next night. I was in my room getting ready. He said we were going on a picnic so I wore a pair of denim shorts with studs on one side and a tank top that says “I’d rather wear flowers in my hair than diamonds around my neck”. I slipped on my black sandals and put on a cute ring. I did my makeup and then walked out to the living room. Austin wasn’t out yet but Nathan was on the couch.
“You look beautiful.” He said as he turned his head to look at me.
“Thank you.” I smiled.
“Dylan, I want you to know that, I’m ok with you dating Austin. He’s a good guy, and I can tell he really loves you.” Nathan told me.
“You really mean that?” I asked. In the beginning he never liked Austin.
“Yeah. I’m just happy that you’re happy.” Nathan said. He stood up from the couch and gave me a hug.
“I love you Nathan.” I said.
“Love you too sis.” He said. When we pulled away I looked to the side and Austin was standing by his door. He had a big smile on his face; I love his smile. “Go you two. Have fun, but not too much fun.” Nathan said.
“Thanks Nathan.” Austin asked.
“No problem dude.” Nathan answered.
“Bye Nathan.” I said.
“Bye.” He said and we walked out the door. We walked to the car and got in. I looked in the back and the seat was down. Austin had a blanket laid out and he had pillows and rose petals all around.
“You did this?” I asked with a huge smile on my face. Austin nodded his head and I leaned over and kissed him. He’s so thoughtful and amazing. I always think about how lucky I am to have him, and it’s crazy. It’s crazy to think that last year at this time my life was totally different. It’s crazy that my life could change so much in such a short time. I’m not worthy of having such an amazing boyfriend. He deserves better than me, I’m just glad he chose me. Out of all the girls in the world that are in love with him he chose me. He loves me and I love him and that’s all that matters. People say you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, but I know exactly what I have. I have the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life standing right in front of me, and I’m appreciating every minute of it. He is the love of my life and always will be. We pulled into a parking lot and next to the car was a tree with a little bit of shade under it. Austin grabbed a blanket and laid it down under the tree. I sat down and Austin sat next to me. He grabbed the picnic basket and started pulling stuff out. He pulled out a bottle of sparkling cedar, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He also had a container of macaroni salad to go along with it. Austin’s not really the best chief. That’s just about as much as he can do.
“This is amazing Austin, thank you.” I said as I grabbed Austin’s Hand across the blanket.
“That’s not it. I didn’t even show you what I have for dessert yet.” He laughed.
“Oh let me guess. Firecracker ice pops?” I asked. Those were Austin’s favorites.
“How did you know?” He asked, pretending to sound shocked.
“Just a wild guess.” I joked. Austin and I ate our PB&J sandwiches and macaroni salad as we talked about pointless stuff. We finished our food and then we were just talking.
“Can you get me an ice pop?” Austin asked me.
“Sure.” I said and reached in to the picnic basket I felt a little box so I pulled it out. “What is this?” I asked. It was a little white box with a gold border around it.
“Open it, it’s for you.” Austin said. I opened it slowly and it had a silver band in it. “It’s not the really thing, but I want to be with you forever Dylan, of you’ll let me.” He said. I pulled the ring out and it had something engraved on the inside. It said “Austin and Dylan till the end of time”
“Austin I love it.” I said and gave him a kiss.
“May I?” He asked. I nodded my head and he slipped the ring onto my ring finger.
“This is just until I can give you an actually engagement ring.” He said.
“This is good enough for me.” I said. I kissed Austin and then he grabbed my hand and stood up. I stood up to and he walked me to the back of his car. We got in and lay down and started to make out. We didn’t go any farther than that though. We just laid there and talked.
“You’re never going to leave me right?” I asked him.
“Never.” He said.
“Not even when I’m old and ugly?” I laughed.
“You will never be ugly. The older you get the more beautiful you will be.” Austin said and gave me a kiss.
“What about when you’re the richest man on the earth?” I asked.
“I’ll buy you anything you’ve ever wanted” Austin said.
“You’re my prince.” I told him.
“You’re my guardian angle. You stayed with me when I was falling down. If it wasn’t for you I might not have made it. You never left my side, and that means the world to me.” Austin said.
“I will never leave your side, no matter what happens.” I assured him.
Austin grabbed my hand and looked into my eyes “Till the end of time right?”
“Till the end of time.”
Austin’s POV
This is the moment I realized my life was complete. I had an amazing girlfriend, family and the greatest group of friends. We stick together no matter what because we love each other. If I ever get into trouble they’re there to bail me out. I don’t need all the material things in life when I have all these people around me that love me.
At this time in my life I’m happy with where it’s going. I don’t need to take the wheel anymore. I’m just sitting back and watching where life takes me. As I lay down next to the love of my life and watch the stars, I thought back to the first time I saw Dylan. She pulled up in the car with her mom, dad and brother behind the huge moving truck. She got out of the car looking tired. She started to stretch as her long blond hair flew freely in the light breeze. She turned around and waked over to get the first of many boxes she would be bringing upstairs to her room. I remember. I can’t remember anything that happened after those few moments, but I remember those. “Dylan. I remember the first time I saw you.” I said.
“Yeah, the first time in your hospital room when I had a breakdown. I remember that too.” Dylan laughed.
“No, the first time when you were on your lawn and you got out of your car and stretched. Then you walked over and took boxes up to your new room. I can’t remember a scratch after that, but isn’t that amazing.” I asked her. I can’t believe I remember that. I would say that I made it up, but it feels so real.
“Austin, how do you remember that?” Dylan asked me. By the look on her face she was just as shocked as I was.
“I don’t know, but I’m glad I do.” I said. “It’s like when I looked at your face, I remembered.” I told her. Dylan and I laid there trying to get me to remember more, but I didn’t. I just enjoyed hearing all the memory’s Dylan and I had together. I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives making more. And as I laid here staring at the girl of my dreams, the love of my life, I’m thankful that it happened the way it did and that she was the girl next door.
