Ashton's POV

Luke really didn't seem to care what we would do to him because today he was wearing a dress. A daring bastard he was.

"Ashton do you see him?" Martin snickered in front of me. I rolled my eyes and nodded my head. I no longer thought it was funny, just confusing. I really wish that Luke could be left alone, but I knew that Luna would never have that.

"What's the matter with you?" Lee asked. I shook my head. "Ash, c'mon."

"Nothing. I'm alright." I told him. "What makes you think somethings wrong, anyways?"

"Well you certainly aren't getting any kicks out of this kid when the whole world is laughing at him." Martin said.

"The same joke is only funny so many times. Now it's just annoying." I sighed as I rolled my eyes. "Trust me, I've heard about this kid too many times for him to be entertaining." I was well aware that Luke could hear us, maybe he thought I was siding with him, but I couldn't keep that fantasy real. "We'll just have to make it entertaining."

"Yes." Lee smiled and clapped his hands together. Him and Martin nudged one another as class began.

We walked out of the room towards the end and I could see Luke run off by himself. To be honest it was dangerous for him to go anywhere with Chyanne or Nala. Especially since Martin and Lee insisted we followed him.

"Hey Luke!" Martin yelled when we were behind him. He turned to us wide eyed and took a few steps back every time we took one forward.

I never actually laid a hand on anyone until they fought back, I reacted like an emergency switch.

That's how I got here in the first place.

Freshmen year, there were a lot of fights. Eventually, one kid started one with me. When I got him sent to the hospital it became well known that quiet Ashton was not someone to be messed with. It attracted Michael, Luna and Calum to befriend me and eventually all of my other idiots. They all said that we deserved to be on top and they proved it. I stood back and mainly monitored so nothing went awry. When it happened, I pounced. It rarely did though.

"Where do you think you're going so soon?" Lee chuckled as he walked around Luke so he had no where to go. I folded my arms as I could see the crowd of people beginning to stop and gather.

"He thinks he can just leave us, Lee! But we want to play a game. How's that sound Luke? A game?" Martin smiled wide.

Luke shook his head furiously and looked like he would try and run off at any second. Martin and Lee would never let that happen.

And several insults later, Martin threw the first punch, Lee gave the first kick. After a few minutes of ignoring Luke entirely I spoke. "Enough. I think he gets it." Lee and Martin stood away from Luke who was cowering on the ground. I looked towards the crowd and they dispersed. So did Martin and Lee, leaving me looking down at Luke.

I was like a clean up job, I suppose. Making sure nothing ever got too out of hand, and taking care of things when necessary.

I walked in front of Luke as he looked up I could see his bloody nose and tear ridden cheeks.

"What do you want now?!" He spat out at me between cries. "What did I do to you?"

The late bell for class went off and I bent down as I dug in my back pocket before handing Luke a piece of paper. "You dropped this yesterday."

"W-Wha.." Luke mumbled. Maybe I just pitied the boy, I had targeted people for a lot of reasons. Never for any identity things like this. I was totally against that kind of thing. Last year when Luna suggested we go and "talk" to a kid whom had recently "come out of the closet" I lost it and admitted I was bisexual. It was a shock that spread through the entire school, and even into my household. But no one here said anything to bother me, and at home all my father said was I better marry a woman but I can sleep with as many men as I want.

Funny.

Luke opened the paper and went wide eyed. Before folding it back up. I stood up off the ground and offered him a hand to which he looked extremely confused by.

"Why are you being nice to me?" Luke asked.

"I feel bad for you." I shrugged. Luke didn't take my hand like I had expected, instead he got up on his own and walked away from me.

I let out a sigh as I walked into my class late. The teacher said nothing to me and I took a seat next to Luna. She looked me up and down before speaking.

"What's the matter with you?" She asked.

"Why does everything think I'm upset or something?" I rolled my eyes.

She shrugged. "You look like you just did something you shouldn't have. Y'know, guilty."

"I'm fine." I shrugged. "What could I possibly be guilty for?"

"Lots of things." Luna said. She was always very serious and never understood whether or not someone was joking. I never knew why I became friends with Luna, we didn't really get along. She was crude and homophobic for starters. Not to mention she was sexist and if you didn't agree with her views, you didn't deserve to live. There was no changing her mind.

She hated that I was in charge as well.

Luna would never admit it though.

She must have loved the fact that she could bother Luke though, after all. He was probably everything she hated in people. She hated shy people and even when people stuttered and stumbled over themselves.

Luke had no idea what he was getting into.
