When in doubt, don't. ~Benjamin Franklin
Luke's POV
I walked to class after being cleaned up, I was alone but I felt like everyone was staring directly at me. I was uncomfortable, and I had no idea how to deal with the despair that was overcoming me. I should just change the way I act and be just like everyone else, right?
I could feel my eyes fill with tears but I blinked them away as fast as they came. I heard a laughter coming down the hallway and I was not at all surprised when I could see Ashton coming down the hallway with Michael, that was my luck, huh?
Something about Ashton did have me curious though, there was no way that he had zero morals. There was something in his face when he saw me that said he was regretful of something, like a deep sorrow had hit him. He had me wanting answers, but I was too afraid to even walk near him.
Michael nudged Ashton and whispered something to him. Ashton shook his head and responded and Michael walked past me, he gave me a shallow look, but just like Ashton, there was something deep and regretful in it.
Ashton took a few steps towards me and I could feel my knees start to shake as I took a few steps back. I went to dart down the hallway but I could feel Ashton grab the back of my shirt and pull me backwards. "Going somewhere?"
"Let me go!" I hissed out as I lashed away from him, I folded my arms as I could feel myself on the verge of tears, there was no way I could blink these way. Ashton tilted his head to the side and what came out of his mouth next shocked me indefinitely.
"I'm sorry for what Luna did." He told me, there was a sort of ashamed defeat on his face.
"W-What..?"
"I'm apologizing." Ashton said. "I-I mean.." He looked like he was going to say something mean, but nothing came out of his mouth, like he couldn't actually find the words. "I'm sorry for I've done. You can't tell anyone I said that though."
"Why are you saying that?" I asked.
"I don't hate you or anything." He shrugged his shoulders. "And I'm not really disgusted in you or anything. We're more alike than you think." I scoffed and took a few steps back.
"Are you kidding? We're nothing alike." I told him. "You..You're cruel and disgusting, you're a monster! Nothing but an emperor who beheads people when he doesn't get what he wants!"
Ashton went wide eyed. "No, I'm not."
"Yes you are. You lead a group of teenagers to be your little minions. You thrive on the fear of others. You think you're a god, when really, you're more of a nobody than I am. At least I actually have friends." I told him, I folded my arms and refused to meet his gaze. When he said nothing, I was expecting him to pounce on me. Instead, it went a little differently.
"You're right." He muttered and he turned, to walk down the hallway. I did not dare to stop him, but I was endlessly curious. I ran my hand over my hair and took a step back. The bells rang and the halls immediately filled with students, a few bumped into me and caused me to turn and walk down the hallway on my own accord.
I folded my arms and walked into my classroom, I sat down in the back and was shocked to find that Ashton's buddies did not bother me. Instead they sat in front of me and kept their eyes ahead. Maybe they didn't notice me?
"You heard about it, right?" One - Lee - said to the other; Draven.
"Heard about what?" Draven asked.
"Ashton?" I instantly found myself sitting up.
"Whatever, you're making it into a bigger deal than it needs to be." Draven said. If I learned anything about Draven, I would say that he was very cocky and pretty rude. He thought extremely highly of himself, but had little to no consideration for those around him.
"I don't know, Luna said it wasn't - "
"Whatever." Draven sighed out of annoyance. "You should consider the fact that Luna and Ashton don't get along at all."
"True." Lee said.
"After all, they can never agree on anything." Draven shrugged. "I don't think Ashton is actually the villain he portrays himself as."
The way that Draven and Lee discussed Ashton's behaviors made it seem like they didn't really know him either. In the end, was he a mystery to everyone? I leaned back and listened to the two, staring at them until I caught Lee's eye.
"Oh you're that kid Luna hates right?" Lee asked. I nodded my head, thinking he would immediately snap.
"Well, I know I'm gorgeous, but you should know better than to stare. I'm not interested." Draven told me as he leaned back and pinched my cheek. "You shouldn't eavesdrop."
I let out a sigh and watched the two turn around, they were right, I was picking in business that I had no place in. I turned my head to the teacher as she began to talk, it went on like every lesson. There was a drag on of notes, and since it was mathematics, the teacher would give us a problem and walk around. She walked behind me and put a hand on my shoulder.
"Very good job Luke." She whispered to me and continued around the room. I recalled her name to be Miss Jackson, and she was a new teacher. Fresh out of college, from what I heard. I shook her kind gesture off of me as other students were giving me bizarre looks.
The bells rang and I made my way out of the classroom, as soon as I stepped out I could feel someone grab me and yank me down the hallway, a hand covering my mouth as we ended up outside the building. I was not at all shocked to look up and see the faces above me.
