True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us. ~Socrates

Ashton's POV

I let go of Clark and he went wide eyed. "What are you doing to Luke?"

"I'm not doing anything to him, Luna's the one doing it. I have no idea what she'll do." I sighed as I turned to walk away.

"Why do you think you can treat him that way?" Clark asked, there was nothing threatening in his voice, it was a sad curiosity and when I turned to face him I could see a flash of pain emerge on his face.

"Because it's what I do."

"Why?" Clark asked. "He just wants to be himself, what's so wrong with that?"

I wanted to say nothing, in honesty, I supported individuality and the courage it took for people like Luke to do. In the end, I was ashamed of the answer I gave Clark. "He's a freak." I told him. "He's a freak and if you don't watch out, you're going to catch it."

Clark went wide eyed and I could swear I heard him swallow hard.

"Get over it, you fool." I sighed as I turned and walked away. I walked down the hallway and found myself standing directly in front of Luna, she gave a smile.

"You owe me a new tube of lipstick." Was what she told me. "I used it on Luke and I refuse to touch the dirtied thing again."

"I never said you had to use lipstick." I told her. "That was your own choice, I am definately not paying twelve dollars for you to have a slightly different shade pink lipstick."

"Very funny Ashton." She rolled her eyes. "What'd you do to Clark?"

"Nothing." I said and before she could interrupt, I continued. "He got out of my grasp and ran away, I was not about to start chasing him, I don't have the energy for that. I'm lazy."

"This is why you're never going to get anywhere." Luna snarled. "You're lazy and you never try to do anything, you're a softee, Ashton! Man up, or you'll be wearing skirts just like Luke!" She stomped her foot and turned away from me. Walking down the hallway in a fit of fury. I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I turned and went the opposite way.

Everyone was watching the whole thing. "What a girlfriend." I heard a laughter in a voice that I thought was more annoying than amazing. I turned to see a red haired girl standing behind me.

"Nala."

"Hello." She laughed as she walked around me. "So, you and Luna aren't in the best position it would seem."

"We're not dating. I could never date her." I rolled my eyes.

"Why not?" Nala asked. "You're both cruel people, you're perfect for one another. Stuck in a relationship that will treat you the exact way you treat other people." I could feel my temper rising. "How does it make you feel to know that you're a source of pain?"

"I don't need people like you telling me this." I sighed.

"You need someone to tell you it and none of your groupies is going to."

"'Groupies.'" I scoffed at the word. "They're not 'groupies.'"

"Right." Nala said, sarcasm weaving into her words. "I don't believe a word you say."

"Why the hell are you bothering me?" I scoffed as I ran a hand through my hair.

"For the same reason that you bother everyone else." Nala shrugged as she walked around me. "One day you'll see what I'm talking about."

I rolled my eyes and shoved her off to the side as I walked to class. I sat down next to Michael who was flirting with a typical rich, tan, blonde haired girl. She really did not look too interested in him, instead it looked like she was more interested in me. Michael would say something to her and her eyes would trace over to me and a small smile would form on her face.

"I don't bite, you know." I told her. She seemed a little shocked that I noticed her at all and Michael looked to me. She walked over and stood in front of my desk. "What's your name, Blondie?"

"Funny," She laughed. "Haley."

"I'm going to guess you know my name already?" I asked.

"Well, that doesn't mean you shouldn't introduce yourself like a gentleman." She told me.

"You will learn very quickly that I am anything but a gentleman." I told her. "If you wanted a gentleman you came to the wrong place."

She smiled at me slightly as she slid into the desk on the right of me. "Well then, you should know I am anything but a lady."

"No self-respect, huh?" I laughed lightly and she seemed slightly shocked. I turned my head to Michael. "You shouldn't waste your time on girls like her, you deserve more than a girl that will just sleep around when you thought she would commit yourself to you."

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" She snapped. "That's so rude!"

"Darling, I told you I was no gentleman, but that does not mean I have no value for commitment. If you are going to flirt with someone and then move onto the next and act like that's okay, then there is something seriously wrong with your morals." I told her.

"Says you!" She scoffed. "Sending your little minions to beat the hell out of a boy in the girl's bathroom!"

"Luna is her own person. She could easily deny what I say. I know how to keep my hands clean, Haley." I chuckled at her. "Now scamper along, because I could easily drag your name through the mud before you could even walk out of this classroom."

She let out a scoff and walked across the room. "Why did you do that? I liked her." Michael pouted.

"Because I know that you would have wanted to get serious with a girl who would only treat you like a game." I told him. "There's no point in even pursuing someone like that."

"What do you know?" Michael scoffed as he looked away from me. "You don't care about anyone but yourself."

"I care about you enough to help you out. One day you'll understand it." I said. "Everything I do for you guys has reason to it, you just don't know it yet."

"Right." Michael muttered. I said nothing else to him, but I meant it. I never worked without reason, he would have to understand that.
