I arrived in Mr.Harris’ classroom before Isaac. I figured that’s how it was going to be. He didn’t want to tell me whatever it was until he absolutely had to. Unforetunately, that left me uncomfortably staring at random things in the classroom while Mr.Harris glared at me from his desk.
“Mr.Lahey, glad you could join us,” Mr.Harris droned as soon as Isaac walked into the classroom, his tall frame leaving no room in the doorway.
Isaac just nodded and sat down in the desk next to me, awaiting instruction from the evil teacher on what they were supposed to do.
“Since you two have chosen to do idiotic deeds this morning, you will organizing my bookshelf by topic and author, while I go get some more coffee from the teacher’s lounge,” Mr.Harris explained, standing up. “I expect you two will do as instructed unless you want to enjoy lunch with me tomorrow.”
I stood up and walked over to the bookshelf immediately after he had gone. I could feel Isaac eyes burning into the back of my head. “I haven’t given up on trying to figure out what you guys aren’t telling me. I just figure I can’t force you to tell me,” I shrugged.
Isaac stood up from the desk and walked over to the bookshelf, towering beside me. We began organizing the books in an awkward silence. Cells, Energy, ...the subjects were just as uninteresting as Mr.Harris.
We went on organizing and putting books back on the shelf for a good six minutes before Isaac broke the silence. “It’s not that I don’t WANT to tell you, trust me it would be a load off for me, but it’s not quite just my secret to tell,” Isaac told me. Well that didn’t help me, that just made the situation even more vague.
“But Allison and Lydia get to know about whatever it is,” I complained, shelving books two at a time. “What makes me any different?” I questioned, feeling hurt. It was like Isaac and everyone else thought they were better, therefore they got to know.
Isaac sighed. “It’s just, it’s a lot to handle.”
“And you think I can’t handle it?!” I questioned, the tone of my voice being anything but friendly. I didn’t mean to come off that rough, I just don’t have a history of keeping my temper in check.
“No of course not!” Isaac protested, trying to figure out a way he could make it so that she would understand that it was bigger than him, biggger than Beacon Hills. “It’s- It’s just...” he muttered, trying to find the right words for the situation.
“IT’S WHAT?” I growled at him, shoving the last book back into the bookshelf, and turning so that Isaac and I were face to face.
I could see that he was hurt by harsh tone. I was about to apologize for being rude and an awful friend for trying to get him to tell me something that he didn’t want to, but I was stopped. By what? Isaac’s lips on mine. The sheer force of the kiss knocked me back into the bookshelf, luckily not knocking it over. I was shocked to say the least. This was not where I imagined having my first kiss with Isaac. Yes, I’ve imagined it multiple times, and Mr.Harris’ classroom wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I didn’t have a chance to care about that. My head was spinning so much I couldn’t quite tell where I was. Isaac’s arms wrapped around my waist as though he was afraid that I would fall. Which in all honesty, I wasn’t sure that I wouldn’t. The kiss was- well, not even Nicholas Sparks would probably be able to perfectly describe it. Yeah, THAT amazing. When he broke the kiss, I was breathless (in both senses of the word).
Neither Isaac or I said a word. He headed towards the door, standing to the side as he opened it. It was almost as if he had known that Mr.Harris was on the other side of the door, his hand out as if he was reaching fr the doorknob right as Isaac opened it.
