Differences

Chapter 1

Carley's POV

The day I found out I had two powers I knew I couldn't tell anyone.

*Flashback*

It was my first day of first grade. I didn't know what to expect, would I make any friends? When my parents walked me into the room I saw a lot of kids my age. I looked up to my mom and dad and gave them puppy dog eyes basically saying 'don't leave me'. They knew I would do this so as soon as I did this they let go of my small hands and left. They just left me there. All by myself.

I turned to face them and started cry. I knew they heard me but they never turned around. Then I thought that the only way out of here was to cry so hard that they had to call my parents back in to come and get me. So I did just that.

I began to cry and whimper when a tall lady came over to me and said in the softest voice I have ever heard "what's wrong sweetie?" I looked up at her and immediately stopped crying. I have no idea how I stopped it was like when she looked at me my mind told me to stop. I couldn't cry I tried and tried to keep crying but I couldn't.

She helped me up off of the floor and brought me over to some chairs. She sat me down and knelt down next to me. She said in the same voice as before "hello, what's your name?" I replied with "Carley" in a very soft voice. "Carley? That's a pretty name, my name is Samantha but you can call me Mrs. Smith" as soon as she said that I was in a much happier mood. I don't know what it is about her but every time I looked at her my mind went blank.

I started to look around the room when I saw a little girl over in the corner all by herself. She had brown hair that ended just below her shoulders and blue eyes. She looked scared and confused, so I decided to go introduce myself.

"Hi, my name's Carley, what's yours?" I said in the nicest way possible. "Ma-addie" she stuttered out. I couldn't tell if she wanted me to go away or not so I kept talking to her. "How old are you?" I said hoping she didn't think I was weird for asking so many questions. "Si-x" she said, stuttering again but not as bad as the first time. "Really? Me too" I did my best smile hoping she would smile back. She did.

We became friends almost instantly. I grabbed her hand and pulled her over to some chairs. We sat down and Mrs. Smith started talking. "Hello everyone!" She said with a huge grin on her face. The whole class responded with "Hello!" She then said "My name is Mrs. Smith and I will be your teacher throughout the rest of the year!" Everyone nodded. "How about we go around the room and say our name and what our favorite thing to do is?" Almost every single face in the room lit up with excitement. Except for Maddie's.

Even though I only knew Maddie for about 10 minutes I could already tell that she was very shy. Everyone said their name and what their favorite thing to do was. Then it was my turn. "Hi, I'm Carley and my favorite thing to do is dance" I said proudly and looked over at Maddie and her face was ghost white. Her eyes were really big and she wasn't saying anything. So me being the caring person that I was, I stood up and said "this is Maddie and her favorite thing to do is-" and I was cut off by Maddie pulling on my shirt and whispering "playing with my dog". "Playing with her dog" I said quickly then sitting down.

*later in the flashback*

"Okay class today we are going to learn the most important thing you will ever learn" everyone in the room looked nervous, I don't know why because it sounded interesting to me. "Okay class we live in a world where everyone is born with a power, there is nineteen different powers that you can have. You could have the following powers:

-Mind control

-Mind reading

-Healing

-Hypnotism
