Chapter 2
*Maddie's POV*
Boy, was I glad to find out I had powers! I got to sleepover at Carley's house that night because my mom dropped off some clothes. We were so much happier when we found out we had powers! We spent the night talking about the next day.
*Present Day*
Carley was my first best friend, in fact she's still my only friend. Shyness, thank you for ruining my life! When I got to school, I instantly saw Carley standing by our lockers. I smiled and ran over to her. No pun intended, I'm actually a slow runner. "Hey girl," she greeted, "I was thinking--" I cut her off, "Sleepover this weekend? Yes!" "I never get used to that," she said, rolling her eyes. "But I'm not using my powers! Remember? The reactor? I just knew you were gonna ask that because you ask that EVERY Friday!" I explained. She laughed.
I guess I should explain the "reactor". See, a couple of years ago, a guy got in trouble at our school for using his powers at school. I believe he was some butt ugly guy (other kids' words, not mine) and he used his power of making people love him to have every girl, well, fall in love with him. It was bad because no girl could focus, and every guy was getting peed off that their girlfriends were running off to some other guy. So the school had multiple, very smart scientists develop a reactor to deactivate any power so that no person could use their powers if they were under 18. That means teachers can, but students can't. Even the lunch ladies use their laser vision to heat up leftover meatloaf! Not fair.
Anyway, our school was the best in the world for training students with powers, but if you didn't live in the correct area, you had to pay a LOT of money to go here. That's why our school is made up of half snobby rich kid/half normal-class kids. Good ratio. Not. But I wouldn't dare say anything to one of the rich kids, again, shyness!
Carley and I walked to Math and sat down. Carley groaned, see she isn't the best math person in the world, so you can see where I'm going with this. I'm pretty good at math, considering I can manipulate my own mind into learning it all. It's a weird concept, but it works. "I can still tutor you," I whispered to Carley. "No, I need to learn this by myself!" Carley whisper-screamed. "Fine," I answered. She is so stubborn sometimes. One day, that's gonna get her in trouble.
*Knock on Wood*
Hope I didn't jinx her.
Anyway, as I was walking out of math, I heard some fakes talking. Fakes is the name of popular girls at our school that wear 50 tons of makeup and short skirts and....well, you get the idea. Anyway, "So did you hear about the new kids coming next week?" Julie, the queen fake, said to Jewels. "No! What's up with them? We never get new kids anymore!" Jewels exclaimed. "I know! But, like, they are apparently really nerdy. Like, them, nerdy." She said, pointing to me and Carley. "Just walk away," I whispered to Carley, holding her back because she looked like she was going to punch Julie's face in. "When do they come?" Jewels asked. She hates it when people insult us. "Um, next week I think," Julie answered.
The rest of the day went by uneventfully. When we walked out of school, Carley told me, "Hop on my back. I'll use my super speed to get home fast." "Um....no!" I answered as I started walking.
And we WALKED home.
