Tigers are not my school mascot. I chose a random one. If you can think of a better mascot that would fit shadowhunters and their world, then please tell me cause I couldn't think of any.
Clary Fray
Friday came sooner than I would've liked. This is the day of cheer tryouts. Isabelle is stretching and trying to encourage me that it'll be fun. I don't even want to try. I could be doing so much more than this, but I'm stuck with my hair in a hair pony with a huge white bow and short, red shorts.
"I could kill you for this." I say glumly.
She smiles, "You'll thank me later. Now start stretching."
Miss. Belcourt -the cheer coach who prefers to be called Camille, enters the gym in a black shirt that has 'COACH' printed on the back in red and 'SEREPH TIGERS CHEER' on the front. "Okay, everyone partner up. We will be starting out will a perimeter jog. Stay with your partner." She yells.
Of course Izzy and I are partners. We walk out of the gym into the warm air. It's still basically summer, school started not long ago and fall hasn't came around just yet.
I don't feel tired or out of breath at all. Girls all around us are panting and struggling to run without needing to stop. I refrain from telling them that stopping will just make it harder.
"Please try, Clary. I think it would be good for both of us." Isabelle says as we run past the cross country team.
I look at her. "Iz, I didn't want to do it in the first place."
She takes a breath and says, "I think you'll enjoy this. Just give it a shot. Don't be a quitter!" She jabs me in the side.
"Ouch!" I rub my side. "Cheer isn't my thing. I'm not to big on the idea of jumping and doing stunts in a tight, short skirt."
"You wear things underneath. Cheerleaders are slutty like the make them in movies."
"I know that. I'm just not comfortable. Maybe basketball, or baseball." I say.
We make a turn around the football field as she says, "I don't like those sports. I like cheer... I think you would too if you would give it a chance. I bet you'll love doing flips and everything once you start."
"Or I'll hate it." I note. "I'll try, but I'm not promising I'll like it. And if I do make it, I'm not going to promise I'll do the next season."
"Better than nothing."Everyone finishes their running and we meet back in the gym. We all stretch again and then we work on our flexibility. I can surprisingly almost do the splits and a backbend.
Isabelle must've been practicing for awhile because she got most of this stuff perfectly. Camille praises her on almost everything.
By the end of day one, I'm able to do the splits, do a backbend but can't do a flip or anything to get out of it. I'm better at my scorpion and can almost do a pike.
My legs are tired and feel like jelly.
"Wanna get some frozen yogurt?" Isabelle asks when we get our stuff.
I am pretty hungry and that sounds amazing at the moment. I nod my head and take a drink from my water bottle.
Isabelle has her own car, so we get in and she turns the radio onto Beyoncé. I'm not a fan of Beyoncé.
"Iz! Can you please not listen to this?" I complain.
She doesn't listen and continues singing to Drunk in Love.
I sigh and lean my head against the window, forced to listen to her belting out about drinking watermelon.
After another Beyoncé song, me arrive to Orange Leaf- the self-serve frozen yogurt place. Hopefully they have raspberry lemonade, it sounds really good right now.
Before we go inside, I take the bow out of my hair. Pieces of red hair frame my face making me uncomfortable since I'm still sticky with sweat.
"Let's go, chica. I want my frozen treat in my belly!" She yells enthusiastically, even jumping up and down a bit.
I laugh and follow her inside the cool building.
We are kindly greeted by a girl behind the counter and we grab our bowls. I look over the flavors they have- mango, cheesecake, raspberry chocolate, peppermint, peanut butter and, "RASPBERRY LEMONADE!" I screech, causing Isabelle to jump, but this time out of shock.
I fill my bowl with the frozen yogurt and top it off with strawberry and mango boba poppers. The girl behind the counter weighs my yogurt and I pay, grabbing an orange plastic spoon.
I scoop some of the frozen yogurt into my spoon just as I notice someone standing behind me and he speaks, causing me to jump.
Of course, it's Jace. I glare at him, not bothering to hide my annoyance.
He smirks at me. "Cheer tryouts? So you actually went through with it?"
"It's none of your business." I reply with an annoyed tone.
I look around for Isabelle. She's still choosing her yogurt.
"You know, usually people don't try to ignore me." He says and takes a bite of his yogurt.
I don't say anything.
He takes another bite. "Why do you hate me? If I were you, I'd probably pass out."
"Not everyone thinks you're God's greatest creation." I scoop a bunch of the boba poppers into my spoon and eat it, taking a sit by a window looking out on the parking lot.
Isabelle is paying now.
Jace's smirk still remains on his perfect face that I hate. "You don't know me and I don't know you. Don't you think it's too early to be judging me?"
I just stare at him and Isabelle comes over.
"Oh hey, Jace!" She says kindly, taking a seat across from me since Jace was occupying the one beside me.
He smiles and greets her.
I'm forced into a conversation with them, but I try to ignore Jace as much as I possibly can.I'm staying at Izzy's tonight. Her house is pretty large; it reminds me of an old, Victorian church that's been remodeled. Her family is pretty wealthy, but she doesn't show it off.
As soon as we open the door, her cat, Church, greets us with a little meow. I pet his little head and Isabelle says hi to him. I follow her up to her bedroom; something that looks like a Victoria's Secret model would live in.
"Okay, let's do makeovers!" Izzy pulls me over to her vanity and sits me down. "Okay, so let's do-"
I groan and try to stand up, but with her in my way it doesn't work out. "Iz, I am so tired. I really don't feel like wiping off something that is pointless to put on in the first place."
She pouts but agrees with me. "Then what do you want to do?"
I look around, thinking of what we could do to pass the time. The TV gives me an idea. "Let's watch a movie. Romeo and Juliet?"
Her eyes light up and she look in her families ginormous movie collection downstairs. She brings back the older version from 1968, the one with Leonardo DiCaprio, and the newer one with Douglas Booth. "Which one?" She asks, handing them all to me.
I look through them, and decide we start out with the Douglas Booth one. He's pretty, it's newer and I've never seen it.
I love Romeo and Juliet.
We are in the middle of them movie when Isabelle starts ranting. "Ugh, this makes me so sad! Why couldn't they have run away right after they got married?" She says as Tybalt is stabbed. "They could've had a happy ending and all would be great!"
"Why don't you go back in time and ask Shakespeare?" I say, putting a potato chip in my mouth.
She gives me a look. "Shut up. Well, at least they weren't siblings. That would've been worse!"
I laugh, "Back then, siblings did marry though. Sometimes."
She shrugs and focuses back on the movie.Sorry this took longer to update. I am back in Chicago and just wasn't focused on writing. I'm obsessed with Romeo and Juliet!! And I'm getting into acting and all those things.
But yeah! That's it. I know clary might sound a little out of character, but it's going to work out with what I have planned.
Speaking of Romeo and Juliet! I have been thinking about writing a rewrite of Romeo and Juliet called "Riley and Juliet". So both of their names are very similar to the original characters: Riley Montague and Juliet Canner. I was really tempted to do Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet cause it just seems right! So what do you think?
I have a lot of ideas for it, but the end is undecided. I have many options but idk just yet. So yeah.... I'm done with this chapter and my Romeo and Juliet ranting. You can go now!
