He was holding a book that had familiar figures on the front. My brothers, Kota's dog Max, and I were sketched out. In bold red lettering it read "I'll Get You My Pretty! A Practical Guide to Surviving Overprotective Guys And Their Little Dog Too" This is the homework he's been sending home with her? Kota and Victor had some explaining to do.
Sang took one look at the cover and burst out laughing, thus alerting Mr. Ravenstahl to our presence. "Little bird! I have a new book for you."
"This may be your best book yet, Raven!" Her eyes were alight with humor. "Can I keep this one? I'd like to show North." Mr. Ravenstahl let loose his own booming laugh.
"Of course little bird, just don't show West until I can be there to see his reaction. If the boss," he pointed his chin in my direction, "is any indication, I'd like to see all of their reactions." Sang's head whipped around to me so fast that I didn't have time to school my features. She saw the angry glare I was given Mr. Ravenstahl. Once I realized I had been caught I didn't try to hide my displeasure at his "homework." Sang, on the other hand bent over at the waist and laughed so hard her voice broke from the strain.
"Ra...Raven....that's...the...best...reaction...yet!" She managed to get out in between bursts of laughter.
Oh, having fun at my expense, Miss Sorenson? I don't let Sean get away with that; I certainly won't let you either. "Miss Sorenson, if you are quite finished I believe you are here for a lesson." I put every ounce of my Academy authoritative voice into that statement and watched in veiled delight as she promptly stood up, schooled her features, and met my gaze with a challenge. Oh, we are in a feisty mood today. Hopefully you're still like that later on.
Mr. Ravenstahl must have caught our silent conversation because his laughter only grew. "Come on little bird, we have people to go, places to see." Sang came over and gave me a hug and my mock horror at his "book" cover dissolved into nothing. I'm turning into North. One touch from her and all of my emotions mellow out.
"Be good for Mr. Ravensahl. And remember you can call me if you need anything." She looked up at me and promised that she would contact me should the need arise. I looked over her shoulder and silently told Raven that if anything happened to her he was a dead man, professional Russian or not. He nodded in understanding. Well, now that we have that cleared up.
I pulled away from her and waved as I watched the two of them return to the parking lot. I wasn't exactly sure where they were going, but I knew that he would guard her with his life.
I made my way back to the car; I wanted to have time to put away her new items before picking her back up. Sean was supposed to join me for a few hours to go over some Academy work. We had planned to do this every day while she was out with her lessons.
