Chapter Nine: A Sharp Turn

Four months passed. Nathan and Emma were still dating. Nothing was able to break their love. Whenever they got into fights, they made up the next day. If one of them was feeling gloomy, the other was there to help them get through it. They loved each other so much and their love seemed unbreakable.

Tony also started dating Nicole. A couple weeks after Nathan had asked out Emma, he asked her out. Between those two weeks, they just went on small dates together. However, their love for each other was very obvious.

Love is something very strong between two people. In those two relationships, the word love was a very good example of the connection they had. They cared for each other very much. They didn't let anything try and separate them. They acted as if they wanted to be with each other forever. They loved each other.

Jake and Rose were the same way as them too; they loved each other. However, they showed it in a different way. As days went on, their paranoia about a surviving Dubleka grew stronger. The dreams became more vivid, thoughts of it haunted them in the daytime, and they kept thinking of theories of how it could be possible. But they were there for each other whenever. They tried to help convince each other that the paranoia wasn't real. Even if they weren't able to comfort themselves, they'd comfort each other. And it showed that they loved each other a lot.

Of course, the world knew about the Dublekas... thanks to the lovely media. There were research tests, theories, and experiments done to find information on the interesting creatures. Lots of information was gathered about them. For example, distinct differences between human DNA and Dubleka DNA were found, and a blood type for Dublekas was also found. Even though the blood type, which was named Dublood, was discovered, it wasn't updated in the world's technology yet. Other facts about them were found too, like their abnormal fingerprints and strange birthmarks. Jake and Rose were going to use that information to their ability and figure out if the paranoia was real or not.

And they were going to use that information very, very soon.

Nathan, Tony, and Ethan were laughing, all together in Ethan's car. They had decided to go out for lunch since they had an extended lunch that day. They went to Taco Bell, which was close by their school.

"So Nicole found that ugly picture of you?" Nathan laughed. Tony laughed and nodded. "Dude, that's amazing." He laughed for a little longer.

"Yep, so funny," Ethan sighed, smiling. "Tony, just know that if she still loves you, even after seeing ugly pictures of you, she's a keeper."

"Yep, she is indeed a keeper," Tony laughed. He then started to mess with the radio station, changing stations every few seconds.

"Hey, I like 105.9!" Ethan exclaimed. He changed it back to that channel.

"Maybe I don't," Tony teased. He then changed it to 101.1. Ethan was about to change it back when Nathan screamed, "ETHAN!" Ethan looked up and noticed it was a red light. He slammed his foot on the brake, which halted the car to an immediate stop. Everyone was thrown forward, then back. They all sat in silence for a few seconds, only able to hear each others' heavy breathing. Luckily, nobody had gotten hurt. After a minute, the light turned green.

"That was close... I need to really focus when driving, sorry guys," Ethan apologized. He then started driving across the intersection.

And that was when a car came speeding forward, slamming right into the car they were in.

Emma had to stay home from school because she was fighting a head cold. She was lying in bed, on her computer to begin catching up on work. She heard her mom yell from the kitchen, "Emma, do you want some soup?!"

"Sure Mom, thanks!" Emma called back. She was about to begin writing down notes she had missed from science class when her phone started buzzing. It was a call from Jake. Emma was confused; Jake was at the hospital. Why would he be calling her?

"Dad?" Emma said into her phone when she answered it. "Wait... Dad... slow down. What happened? WHAT?! Are they ok?! Oh no... we'll be there as soon as possible!" Emma hung up her phone and threw on the first pair of clothes she saw. She bolted out of her room.

"Mom, we need to drive to Dad's hospital right now!!" Emma cried. Rose looked at Emma with confusion. However, she stopped what she was doing and went to her car with Emma.

"What's going on Emma?" Rose asked. "Is Jake ok?" Emma nodded worriedly. "Then what's going on?"

"Dad just called me; Ethan, Nathan, and Tony were going back to school after going out for lunch, and they got in a car accident," Emma explained, being able to feel her voice choke up and waver. "Dad has to perform emergency surgery on them." Rose, just as scared as Emma, started the car. Emma climbed in, and they sped towards the hospital.
