Dreams are usually fun to have. You always wonder what life will be like in your dream. Will you live in a 70-foot mansion or in a cardboard box under a highway? Will you have a job as a plumber or a schoolteacher? Will you have friends or be a loner? Will you have a good life or a bad life? We think dreams are interesting because of what our fates could be.
To Jake and Rose, dreams were not interesting.
Their dreams were bad though. No, they were not living in a cardboard box under a highway, they were not plumbers, and they didn't have friends. But they had to watch everyone they loved and cared about suffer in the hands of the surviving Dubleka. All because they couldn't stop him.
After Nathan, Tony, and Ethan were released from the hospital and had recovered from their injuries, Jake told Rose about his suspicions about Nathan. Because of the unusual birthmark and the unsolved mystery of Nathan's blood type, they were curious... and slightly paranoid. But they simply shook it off. And since then, their nightmares lessened. Instead of having them every day, it became once a week. By April Fool's Day, it was once every two weeks. Soon, the dreams faded away completely.
So life was pretty good after that. Jake and Rose were sleeping with no nightmares nor paranoia. They were finally able to genuinely enjoy themselves and be happy. Not only that, but they had decided to renew their vows, almost like starting fresh after the terrible nightmares they experienced together. They felt like newlyweds all over again, and their love for each other blossomed even more.
Tony and Nicole were still dating, despite the multiple bumps in the road they had. They argued a lot, being two people with very different personality traits. However, they were able to work everything out and still managed to be happy.
Emma and Nathan also were still dating. They hardly ever fought and were happier than ever to be together. They truly believed they were each others' soul mates and believed nothing could tear their love apart.
Or so they thought.
One day, during a rainstorm in April, Nathan began to have searing migraines. On that particular day, it took him by surprise during his first class at school, and it continued to thrash at his head. His head was constantly thumping; it was as if a heart was in his head instead of a brain. The headaches never stopped. He had small breaks every morning, then they would come back to continue putting him in endless pain.
He went to many different doctors and neurologists to figure out what was wrong with him. Everything was suspected: tumors, genetics, parasites in his brain, chronic migraines. They tried everything to help him: medication, brain scans, many tests and blood work. They even tried surgery once to physically see what was wrong with him.
Nothing.
Nobody could figure it out. His family and friends weren't much help either. Nathan believed he would be in endless pain forever, and he felt absolutely miserable. It wasn't until a dream he had one night answered everything.
Nathan stood in a big, white room. No doors, no windows. Just a big empty space. Then someone appeared in front of him. It was a man with light brown hair, light green eyes, and a dark suit and tie. He was a little bit taller than Nathan, being a fully grown adult.
"Are you Nathan Yonker?" the man in the dark suit asked. Nathan nodded confusingly. The man smiled evilly. "I have finally found you."
"Huh?" Nathan questioned. "Why did you need to... find me?"
"This is going to sound crazy to you," the man sighed. "But if you want to understand this, you have to pay close attention to everything I am about to say." Nathan nodded. "Let's get the basics down. I am not human."
"You're what?!" Nathan yelled. "But... you look just like a human!"
"That's because I am an alien that has similar DNA and genes to humans," the man explained.
"I've heard something about these aliens you talk about," Nathan sighed. "Aliens with similar DNA to humans... it's been talked about on the news. I've heard it quite a few times." The man rolled his eyes disgustingly at what Nathan said.
"Yes, our race has unfortunately been revealed to humans," the man replied. "It's a shame, but what can we do about it?"
"Yeah... they were an extinct alien race called Dublekas, right?" Nathan asked. The man nodded. "Wait a second... you said our race."
"Yes I did," the man said. "Nathan, you are not human either. You are also a Dubleka... the last Dubleka, in fact." Nathan raised his eyebrows shockingly and confusingly. He... wasn't human. He was really a Dubleka then? The last Dubleka?! How?!
"You seem confused... allow me to explain," the man, also known as the leader Dubleka, chuckled. "I was the leader of the Dublekas. We wanted to kill everyone in the human race and take over the Earth, then the universe. But that didn't work. We won't go into detail about that, but I really am dead."
"If you're dead, then how are you communicating with me?" Nathan questioned.
"All Dublekas have a special alien power called Dead Spirit," the leader Dubleka explained. "They can communicate with other Dublekas, that are alive, even if they are dead." He paused. "Moving on, my minions and I had a backup plan in case we were killed. We took a pregnant, female Dubleka with us and put her in a tube called a cyrotube. We kept her in there and put an invisible barrier around it so nothing would happen to her. Apparently, someone found her. She died when she gave birth to you. You really are a Dubleka."
"How do you know that I really am a Dubleka?" Nathan sassed. "How do you know if you've got the wrong guy?"
"First of all, I can communicate with you and I'm dead," the leader Dubleka snickered. Nathan crossed his arms. "Second of all, you have an unusual birthmark on your back. All Dublekas have those." Nathan then remembered the hideous birthmark on his back. The one that made doctors throw up or pass out whenever they saw it as his yearly checkups. "Third, has your blood type ever come out as 'malfunction' on blood tests?" Nathan nodded. "That's because Dublekas have a blood type unknown to humans. Fourth, your parents told you that you were adopted, right?" Nathan sadly nodded. "That's because your real mom, a Dubleka, died. And I, a Dubleka... am your father." Nathan sighed. He always dreamed of meeting his real parents one day.
But never this way.
"Ok... I'm a Dubleka, so what?" Nathan laughed. "What's so bad about it?"
"Don't you get it Nathan, you're the last Dubleka," the leader Dubleka growled. "You are my backup plan. In one month, I am going to use another Dubleka power called Mind Control. With that, I will control your mind. You and I... we'll take over the world... as one."
"So... So what am I supposed to do to stop you?" Nathan asked nervously.
"Well you can't really do anything," the leader Dubleka laughed. "But I'd tell your friends and family, kind of to warn them that you're going to kill them." The leader Dubleka started walking away. "Oh, and Nathan, I'm the reason you've been having those migraines."
Nathan quickly woke up from his nightmare. He was shaking and sweating massively. He was scared. So scared, he didn't want to even try to sit up. He wasn't human, and soon he was going to have his mind taken over and become evil.
What were his friends and family going to say when he'd tell them he's the last Dubleka?
