There was beeping. She woke up, breathing heavily. "Where am I? Does anyone know where I am?" she asked.
No one heard. A woman walked into the room. "Excuse me, ma'am, but where am I?" she asked.
"You're at the hospital, um, Jean," the nurse said, looking down at her pad.
"Wait, how do you kn-" Jean started, but the nurse went to the telephone.
"Doctor, Ms. Jean in room 26 is awake. You should come immediately," she said.
Jean sat up. "How do you know my name?" she asked again, but the doctor came in.
"Ah, Ms. Jean Seaber, I'm glad you're awake," he said.
~
Micky, Mike, Davy, and Peter were waiting in the lobby on the second floor.
"Why in the world would anyone want to do something like that to a girl?" Peter asked.
"They must've had a reason," Mike replied.
"But who would hurt a girl? That must've been a stupid reason..." Davy added.
~
"Doctor, when am I going to be released. I know everything happened yesterday, but-"
"Ms. Seaber, you weren't awake yesterday."
"Yes I was, yesterday was June twelvth-"
"No, Ms. Seaber, yesterday was July tenth. You've been in a coma for four weeks."
"What?!"
"Your body went through too much. Both your legs have minor fractures and bruises. We removed shrapnel from your right shoulder and your chest had a minor cut. You're very lucky."
"But Doctor, I have no family or friends to stay with or take care of me. I haven't any money to do so either."
"That's not what the four boys in the lobby said," interrupted the nurse. "They said they they'd take care of you."
"What boys?I don't know anybody!"
~
"Do you think she'll mind staying with us?" Peter asked.
"Oh, well, you know, staying with people you don't know is not scary at all," Davy answered sarcastically.
"So, probably not?" Peter replied.
~
"Since most of your bruises and minor cuts have healed, you'll be out in about an hour or so," the doctor said. "And for now, you'll need to use a wheelchair. Your left leg's fracture is more severe than your right."
Jean looked at her legs. "No, duh." Two casts were on her calves to just. Her arms had bruises all over them. "Great. I'm staying with four boys who I never even met," Jean thought. "Lucky me."
"I don't see why you're so worried, Jean." the nurse said. "I just went out there to see them. They're a nice group of boys-"
"That's easy for you to say, you're not staying with them."
"Just saying, they signed your release papers. Ready?"
"Sure....... I guess." There was no way and no how, she was staying with four boys alone. Jean rolled the wheelchair down the hall, where the nurse was getting ready to open the doors.
"Jean?"
"Yes?"
"They're really nice young boys, don't worry about a thing."
Jean took a deep breath.
"You ready now, Jean?"
"Yeah, now I'm ready."
Author's Note 5/13/18 - I realized how stupid this chapter sounded before the edits, it's probably better now. Enjoy!
