I am combining chapter two and three in the notebook cuz I looked at it and it was one page... So yeah.
The sand squished between my toes in cool relief from the hot asphalt as the water rushed up well above my ankles. I sighed and giggled a bit as the sand moved, causing my feet to tickle. The beach was almost empty, probably in preparation for the rain that was anticipated. You're probably thinking if it's a storm then why am I being an idiot? Well, that's simple. It's tradition. My parent's brought me to the beach for my birthday every year. Since the car accident, that's how I've been...well managing. The waves were well over forty feet high, as though jubilant about the weightlessness that was the product of no surfurs. It was rare anyone saw anyone under the age of thirty on this beach, but a few of the natives managed to fiind it.
My phone rang, it was Jamie. However, lightening raced across the sky, giving everything a white glow for just a second. I didn't dare even pick it up. I looked over at the edge of the water, where it eagerly met the sands and shells, only to find I'd gotten waaaay to close... and the wave to big.
It swept me out into the ocean. As I was thrown into the washing machine, I found out what it felt like to be a phone in the wash. You're there, but you're not supposed to be... And you couldn't get out without help.
I couldn't tell which way was up or down or sideways. It felt like hours, but it must've been only seconds when I was grabbed by my hair and brought to the surface. Someone pounded my back as I landed on wood, rough and unsanded.
Someone laughed and said, "Oi! Wecaught ourselves a mermaid lads!" The accent sounded british.
the pounding stopped as I coughed up the last of the seawater before passing out. It was slow, as though someone were pouring ink over my eyes. I thought I saw a...no, it couldn't be....could it?
I awoke to darkness. There was something over my eyes, but I could feel the roughness of hay covered by rough cotton sheets. On my wrists was cool metal, made rough by rust from the salty air; it chaffed them raw. My throat was parched from the salt water. My clothes were dry, but I felt dusty, like sand was still clinging to me, trying to see farther than the waves that carried them. Speaking of which, I could hear them splashing against wood, rocking me in time with their constant rhythem, telling me I was on a boat or ship of some sort.
I coughed and moaned, rolling onto my side and bringing up my knees in the fetal position. This was a bad decision, my ribs felt like they were on fire, so I straightened out again as someone opened a door and sound flooded in from outside. People were shouting orders, talking, laughing, fighting, etc. Someone walked towards me and pushed my hair away from my face.
I couldn't help but tense as I felt callouses and dry skin scraping over my chapped salty skin. "Ah, yer awake are ye?" Said a low, gruff voice, like bricks grating together.
I tried to speak, but instead a cough came out, giving me an excuse to turn my head away. A hand was put behind my head and lifted until my lips touched a cup filled with water. I sipped until it was taken away and the coughing stopped. I tried again in a harsh voice. "Whe-where am I?"
"I think it'll be me who asks the questions around here." He paused for a second. My body tensed as his hand touched my face, turning it from side to side.
His hand was sliding down when I snaked my leg up and kicked him away. It felt like I'd kicked metal- which, considering the fact that I deemed myself kidnapped, wasn't impossible.
As he landed, loud explosions and broken wood, swearing, whistling, shouting , gunfire, and the like went off. Either the captain was enormous, and explosive.... Or something else was going on. The boat swang from side to side almost as though someone had kicked it.
He was back and raving mad, not happy at all that I'd kicked him. He was on me like a boxer. He was hitting, growling, swearing, tearing, kicking, and touching everything he could while I tried to fight.
"Captain! We need you!" Someone called before they were silenced.
I was crying, making as much noise as I could when the man was pulled away. I heard a gunshot and a loud thunk as something hit the wood. I scrambled away from the noises, only to be stopped by the cuffs. I jerked and pulled until my hands slipped and slided because of the blood. Hands touched my shoulders tentavly and I froze before I heard the jingle of keys. Someone gripped my wrists gently and the cuffs were gone.
Calloused hands touched mine. I pulled away, into another body. They grabbed me, holding onto me firmly. "No!" I cried, "Let go! Please!" I was lifted of my feet and I kicked out. "No!" I caught someone in the stomache and they went down in a whoosh of air as it rushed out of their lungs.
"Easy! Easy now! We need 'er alive!"
"WHAT?!" I shouted before my mouth was covered by some sort of cloth, I gagged. It tasted like salt and sweat and grime and dust. I felt daylight on my skin once more before passing out again.
Tricked ya didn't I? ;)
