Onceadaydreamer
I woke to beeping noices. "Jack? I rasped, opening my eyes I didn't see the black wood I was so fond of. I didn't feel the rough linen sheets. I didn't hear Jack's soft breathing or his deep rumbling chuckle, nor feel his roughly calloused fingers soothing my aching skin nor feel his warmth at my back. No, instead, I was blinded by white washed walls, deafened by the constant beeping of the EKG machine, frozen by the temperature and the sterile cotton sheets, and my hand held in a death grip by my best friend. "Jamie?" She was snapped out of her thoughts immediately. "Wh- what happened? I had the strangest dream-"
"Thank goodness you're awake! We were all so worried!"
"What happened?" My throat felt like someone shoved a sander down my throat and eft it on for a day.
"There was a storm and you were swept out to sea. We found you- well, the police found you. You were in a coma, but you're ok now!" She rushed out in one breath.
"It really was a dream? All of it?" I felt my heart breaking as I cried.
"What was a dream Angel?" She sat on the edge of my bed, holding my hand and giving me water. I told her everything from my capture to my... drowning? She was so jealous.
"Why don't I ever get dreams with a hot Pirate guy in them?!" She cried, demanding details of this Jack Sparrow character.
A couple weeks later, I was back at home and absolutely miserable. Jamie tried everything, but no success. I would just go to the beach, begging for proof that it was real, that it wasn't just some crazy dream I'd cooked up when my head had hit some coral or something. I mean, I had scars around my wrist, a cut across my chest and neck, quite a few cuts along my ankle. My shoulder had shown signs of being recently dislocated. I had bruises galore, and yet all the doctors said was that I must've come across the reef or some trash some idiot tossed into the ocean.
"Come on, you need to get away from the beach. All that sun is frying your brain. Please Angel? Please?" Jamie begged relentlessly. She was not giving up easily this time.
"Fine. Just shut up." I groaned.
"Ok!" She smiled, dragging me to the car.
After a few minutes I had to ask, "Where are we going?" She just turned the radio up and started mouthing the words. "Jamie?....JAMIE?!?!?! WHERE ARE WE GOING?!"
"Here." She pointed at familiar building as she parked.
"The museum?"
"Yeah. I figured you're so obsessed with this pirate guy you might as well see something other than sand and water." She unlocked the doors and lead the way into the building. "Besides, that guy in the case kinda sounds like you're guy. I figured you could at least say goodbye or something."
I smiled at her through teary eyes, but as I looked at the bones, at the shell of the man I.... I never knew. This man was similar, but it just felt wrong... Like this couldn't possibly be the man I pictured as Jack. Tears started to spill, and I turned to the locket he held in his hands. I kicked the ground in frustration, sinking to it as I leaned against the wall. Was I going crazy? "Miss?" I didn't move. "Are you alright?" I shook my head no as it lay against my arms, refusing to look up at first, but then the deep grumble of his voice, like rocks rumbling in the distance. It had a tone to it that sent chills down my spine. I looked up as the man turned a corner, walking away.
I heard someone humming a familiar tune, the deep rumble reminded me so much of Jack. I looked around, hoping to find the source, but no one was there- wait! A shadow! I followed it a ways, just missing seeing him when he turned a corner. I'd catch a lock of dark hair, shoulder length. A heavy boot covered foot over a wooden floor. A dark hand wrapped around a stair rail looked like it had seen years of sun and hard labor. "Bah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dum... dah dah dum... And really bad eggs....." I stopped , confused. I'd just gone in a giant circle. I was back at the display case of weapons. The one shot pistols, the daggers and short swords, rapiers and broad swords. I'd lost him. He had sounded like he was right infront of me. Did he turn a different way?
How had- "Looking for me?" I turned around, there, leaning against the wall in all his glory, was -
"Jack!" I ran into his arms as he smirked wickedly at me. "You're real! You're here!" He laughed and swung me around in a giant circle as Jamie came back, having heard my laughter.
"Angel?"
"Jamie!" I ran to grab her and introduce them. "Jamie, this is him! I knew it wasn't a dream! It's him! He's here!" She stared at him in confusion. He looked nothing like I'd described him. The man I was introducing her to had shoulder length brown hair, and a moustache. No beads, no captains clothes, no drunken swagger. He wore jeans and a long sleeved button down shirt opened over a wife- beater. And when he spoke, he didn't have an english accent, but an american one.
"Sweetie, that's the exchange student, he's been here for about a month." She turned to Jack, "I'm sorry she's gone through an experience. She still hasn't gotten over it-"
"Jamie! It's him! I swear!"
"Look," He inturrupted, pulling me to him, "It's all to do with timeline. She couldn't know me until after her disappearance on her twenty- third birthday." I knew it!
I looked at Jamie, hoping she believed me.It was true, he was here. He was holding me close.
"And how are you here from the 1700's?" Jamie folded her arms across her chest and put most of her weight on her left leg.
"Fountain of youth Darling."
"But.." I started.
"Proove it."
I looked at him, how would he pull this off? "She has scars around her wrists from wrestling against chains. Her shoulder was dislocated when she landed in a tiger pit where she also got her ankle scratched. And the scar trailing down her neck is from a knife, when she was being held hostage. Now, how would I know that unless I was there?" Jamie still looked skeptical so he cleared his throat and said, "Luv, I knew yeh'd warm up to me." I blushed as she looked at me. Only she'd known he had that accent. We'd laughed at my impersonation.
"So, are you young forever?" I asked.
"I stop drinking I'll start aging again." He'd thought of everything. "So, what do yeh say Luv?" He fished in his pocket before getting down on one knee. "Wanna get married?" He revealed a ring from the long ago treasure. I couldn't say anything, I could only nod as he placed the gorgeous ruby ring on my finger.
It turned out, that familiar tune he'd been humming was "Yo Ho A Pirate's Life for Me" and he'd been humming it every day since he showed up. When I asked him how he knew to hum that song, he'd said that I would hum it every now and then and laugh. I hadn't even noticed. Most of the crew of the Black Pearl were on to other things. Jack kept track of most of them as they helped to keep track of me. I'd actually run into them many a time. William and his wife, Elizabeth, had reunited and lived a long and happy life- their descendant was Jamie.
Our wedding commenced that summer. It was beautiful with Jamie as my maid-of-honor. We had our honeymoon in the Bahama's followed by the birth of our first child, a boy, and then shortly after that was a girl. Jack got a ship and we sailed the ocean blue until the day we died. But until that day when our breaths left our bodies and the light left our eyes.... We lived happily.... Ever.... After.
