My name is Hikari Miyasaki. I am eighteen years old, I have brown hair and turquoise eyes, and I am five feet tall. I'm not exactly what you would call a rebellious teenager, but I like to take risks. My style is kinda loose, I guess, and I like to wear jackets over my school clothes because I don't like the way they fit me. Yep. That's me.

Speaking of school, today is my first day at a new high school in Karakura town. My fourteen year old brother and I had to move to this town because my father lost his job, and I am forced to go to this school. I won't know who any of these kids are, and the worst thing about it is that it is my last year of high school! Let me clarify: Even the first year high school students will push me around. Not to mention the fourth year students! Damn it!

My school bag was slung over my right shoulder. I fastened my tie and popped the collar of my uniform as I walked into the classroom. 4B. Here goes nothing...

All eyes turned to me, and I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment. The teacher greeted me at the door and introduced herself. She was a short woman, no taller than me, and had brown hair and brown eyes. Glasses were pushed up to the bridge of her narrow nose. She was actually quite beautiful.

"Hello, Miss Miyasaki. I am your new English teacher Mrs.Koru," the teacher, my teacher, Mrs.Koru said gleefully. Her teeth flashed in the sunlight streaming in from the classroom windows as she smiled. "Please take a seat. Anywhere will do."

I observed the classroom, my classroom, and I spotted a two desks in the back corner. I uttered thanks to Mrs.Koru and walked over towards the desk in the corner. The other people in the classroom, my classmates, watched me as I walked, and my footsteps seemed to be the only sound.

I tossed my school bag onto my desk and sat down in the desk, crossing my arms across my chest. Some of the girls eyed me nervously and whispered nervously between each other. I hate to be conceited, but I am above all of that gossip and that kinda shit.

"Why does she sit with her legs open like that?" I heard one of the girls whisper.

"What's with the weird jacket?" I heard another whisper. Let's try not to get in a fight right now. These idiotic gossips are gonna learn a lesson someday, because, believe it or not, I grew up in a military camp in western Japan. And I'm pretty familiar with karate and self defense. Before I could get riled up anymore, a black haired girl snarled at the two girls.

"Now, it's not nice to talk like that about other people, is it not?" the black-haired-girl growled. I watched as the two gossips shrunk in fear and shook their heads. Is she seriously defending me? Maybe it won't be such a bad school year after all...

"No, we're sorry! Don't hurt us, Karin!" the two girls pleaded desperately. The girl, Karin walked over to my desk and smiled.

"Sorry about that. They shouldn't be bothering you anymore," Karin scratched her chin," What's your name?" She held out a hand, and I shook it gladly.

"Hikari Miyasaki," I replied. Karin nodded and went back to her seat. I believe she is more my style than anybody else here. There was a strange feeling that told me that Karin and I were going to be good friends. Maybe this year wouldn't be so lonely. I turned towards the windows by my desk and looked out on the horizon.

I stared out the window for a few minutes before I felt a tap on my shoulder. When I looked up, I saw a pair of dazzling green eyes staring back at me. There was a boy, probably a few inches taller than me, sitting in the desk in front of me. He had dark brown, almost black, hair that hung a little bit past his forehead, and a bright smile. His body was small, but he looked like he would be strong and agile in a fist fight. I don't know why I automatically think of him in a violent situation, but that is one of my mindsets from military camp.

"Hello, Miss Miyasaki! It's nice to meet you," he said with a bright smile. His face seemed a little red, but I ignored that. "My name is Moku Hakiyo."

"Nice to meet you, Hakiyo," I said with a smile. He was kinda cute, and I couldn't hold back a smile. I could feel my face warming up. I'm blushing like a damn schoolgirl!

"No, please call me Moku," he laughed.

"Okay, class!" we were interrupted by Mrs.Koru," Everybody settle down while I call role." The class went completely silent, except for a few murmurs in the back of the classroom. Mrs.Koru was about to close the door when a mysterious man slipped through, but she payed no notice to him.

My heart began to beat against my sternum. I noticed that nobody else in the classroom seemed to notice him as he walked down the aisle, my aisle. He sat down in the empty desk beside me, and I studied him.

His skin was white, and he had spiky white hair. He appeared to be young, despite the white hair. There was a scary grin plastered to his face that sent shivers down my spine. While he wore normal school clothes, I am convinced that he is not a student.

The mysterious man shifted in his seat, and his muscles rippled. He is as ripped as hell! What in the world is he? The worst thing about him was not his creepy grin or his extra pale complexion, it was his eyes. Where his eyes should have been white, they were black, and his irises were gold. There seemed to be a chill radiating from him, and the hairs on the back of my neck prickled.

-----

I went through the rest of the school day in silence, and the creepy white guy followed the class around the whole school day, then he mysteriously disappeared. The funny thing was that he quite coincidentally sat beside me in every class. I pushed it out of my mind and left the school building. Moku came up to me after school and offered to walk me home.

"Sure," I agreed and we left the campus. After a few minutes, I finally gathered the courage to ask him. "What did you think about that weird white guy in the back?" Moku cocked his head to the side in confusion.

   "Which one?" Moku asked.

"The one sitting in the desk beside me," I said, narrowing my eyes. Moku shook his head and glared at the ground.

"Hikari, the desk beside you was empty."
