"Did you tell Emily what happened?" Bek asked suddenly.
Jim snapped out of his thoughts to see her sitting awkwardly, staring at the floor.
"Pardon?"
She blushed. "I just asked if you told Emily what happened."
"Oh, no I haven't."
Bek breathed a sigh of relief. "Are you going to tell her?"
"I... I don't know. I'm scared that she will freak out. Well, more than she already did this morning when you didn't show up."
She looked up guiltily, "I'm really sorry."
Jim was taken aback, "You don't need to be sorry, it's not your fault! If it's anyone's fault it's mine."
"It's not your fault either Jim, if I was in your position I would have done the same. I'm so grateful that you took care of her when I couldn't. So thank you, and thank you for saving me this morning as well."
Jim nodded, embarrassed. "What should we do now?"
"Well, judging by your reaction when you first saw me, I look pretty awful. I don't think that I should go back to Emily looking like this. I would kill for a bath right now, or even a shower."
"I'm sure we can organise that somehow."
"The other problem is my clothes, do you know if I could get them washed somehow?"
"Sure, but don't you have any others?"
She blushed again. "No."
Jim thought for a second, "I suppose I could go home, reassure Em, and grab you some of her clothes and then bring them back here..."
"Won't Emily notice?"
"Probably not, but just in case, I'll take you to the shopping centre and buy you some clothes."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I got you into this mess after all."
"It's not your fault, but thank you any way."
He nodded, half smiled and stood up before turning towards the door and leaving.
When Jim got home, he paused before going inside, unsure of how he would explain things to Em. He took a deep breath before opening the door and stepping inside.
Once inside he made his way into the lounge room, the sight that met his eyes made him stop dead in his tracks and tears well up in his eyes.
