"How do we get out of here?" I asked anxiously.
"Jump?" Danny responded.
"No way, we're too high!" Fiona joined in.
"I guess we're just going to have to fight our way out again." I said grimly.
"Wait, did anybody realize that there is no way that this is the Beacons' base, we walked for miles!" Fiona pointed out.
"Good point, but we don't know what they're capable of. They could have many bases or-" But I was cut off. A man in a yellow robe came out of the steel door that was in front of us. He had long grey hair in a ponytail, and a long grey beard in a braid. He was very handsome for what looked like an old age. He spoke a soft, gentle voice,
"Ah, you've arrived." He seemed very calm.
"This is defiantly not the Beacons." Danny whispered.
"Or it's a trap!" I whispered back, "So, um, what's your name?" I said loud enough for the man to hear this time.
"My name is Glen, and I am the leader of the Beacons!"
I looked around, expecting something to happen, but nothing did. He just stood there for a moment, then walked back through the steel door he had come from, leaving us wondering what to do.
"Should we follow him?" Danny asked.
"What else can we do?" I replied.
"I don't know..."
We went through the door, and gawked. Except wait! There was nothing to gawk at! It was just a normal room, big... but normal. There were brick walls, tile floor, and a log ceiling. There were six armchairs arranged in a circle in the middle, each one a different colour. Just like the rooms! I decided to sit in the green chair, Danny in the red one, and Fiona in the blue one. Glen was seated in a cantaloupe-coloured chair that faced us. The two other chairs (one lavender, one a camouflage green) were empty, but I assumed they had people to go with them, somewhere. I had had enough now,
"Ok now I'm very confused! First people kidnap us, say they're the Beacons, then want to kill us, and now we find other people named the Beacons who have a secret underground base in the middle of no where!" I fumed. I just wanted answers.
"So did the other Beacons." Fiona pointed out.
"That's not the point!"
"I understand." Glen said. He looked like he was thinking deeply about something, "I shall tell you my story. There is an old legend that when the aboriginals were living alone in Canada-"
"Yeah, we know. They hid the "Secret Stone" away from the British or whatever." Danny interrupted.
"Oh but there's more! Let me tell you the story. They came upon a glorious gem, one that was so irresistible, they had to take it. They soon found out that it held unimaginable power! So when the British came over, they knew that the British would want the power for themselves, take advantage of of it. They decided it would be best to hide the gem away somewhere unknown in Canada, and they did! That was the story my father told me many times. When I became a man, we started an organization to find that gem. We called it the Beacons, because we showed people the light, guided them on the right path (like a lighthouse), and still we search for a greater light! My father sadly is no longer with us, but when he was dying, he told me that I had to keep the Beacons alive. I could not stop, I could not give up. I had to keep searching for that greater light, the gem, and keep it out of enemies' hands." He paused for a moment, a sad face on him, "No one had any idea to the where the gem was, and no clue had turned up... until now!" His face lit up again at the thought of the gem, "Some archaeologists came across a map that seems to relate to the gem. The aboriginals called it the "Secret Stone". It was donated to a museum, just to be stolen by Corple and his secret, evil society, the Conquerers! They want that power to conquer the world (hence the name), but I- we, the Beacons won't let that happen... For my father's sake."
"Corple is part of the Conquerers?! That explains why he wanted to kill us... But he called themselves the Beacons, and acted nicely to us. I just overheard him say he was going to kill us, that's why we left!" I said confused.
"He lied. I've known him all my life... we used to be best friends. I left him because he began doing the wrong thing, hurting people, sometimes hurting me. He's very slippery, a good liar, and gets very angry when he doesn't get what he wants. He also is very dangerous, it is fortunate that you escaped. Unfortunately for us, the conquerers have grown stronger, larger in numbers than ever before. If they find that stone, life as you know it will seize to exist. That is why we need you three to help us fight against the Conquerers, for the world's sake. Think of it as joining our "club". I'm sure Corple told you this already, Makenzie, that you have natural powers. That part is true! But what he didn't tell you is that you also need your friends. The three of you you are the perfect team. It's like your bodies were made to work together. Think about it, you three escaped a dangerous, secret society together! That's teamwork! I'm sure you'll need time to discuss and think about this, so I will leave you be."
Then he walked out of the room, leaving us bewildered.
