Setting my thoughts aside, I looked over to the other side of the street and I could see Jason, Amy and Carmen were walking up the street towards Lee’s car with their bags ready to stay the weekend at the beach house. Lee looked down into the wing mirror and saw them to. He stepped out of the car and pressed the button on the key to open the boot. I could see Jason greeting Lee and Ben, who was getting out of the car, still half texting. Carmen pushed up the boot and flung her rucksack into the boot before running over to Lee and hugging him. Jason and Amy put their luggage into the boot and the group opened the doors of the car before getting in.
Anna and I could see Lee fastening his belt before he started the car. He grabbed the steering wheel and nodded to us indicating that he was ready to go. With this, Anna pushed her own keys into the ignition and the car growled in response. Anna pulled out the space she had been parked in and started driving down the street with Lee’s car following closely behind.
We took a right at the junction and started off on the road heading towards the beach house. I gazed out of the window, subconsciously staring at the passing scenery. I began retracing yesterday’s events. Why had everything got so complicated over the last twenty-four hours? Before yesterday, I had been trying to fight away my feelings for Liam on grounds that he was wrong for me. But now after I saw him with Cassie, I couldn’t help but want him more. Or did I? I think I like Jake but then there’s Ben. Oh why does this have to happen to me? I only asked for one guy to come along but now there’s three and I have no idea how I feel or what to do with any of them. What was I going to do? I know, I’d ask Aria she was the brains in all this relationship stuff. She would always just say something to me and it would all make sense and then I would feel such an idiot for being so confused in the first place.
I looked out of the window again. Where were we? I realised then that we were heading on the back road to the beach house.
“Anna, why are we going on this road?” I asked confused at the matter.
“Wow how long did it take you to realise that? We’ve been on this road now for a good ten minutes” she said chuckling.
“I’ve had other things on my mind!”
“Oh have you now? I wonder what they could be... Maybe something beginning with J and ending in E? I’m not right by any chance am I?”
“Well yeah you are actually...” I said quietly hoping that they wouldn’t hear me.
They all started chanting the whole “Becky and Jake, kissing in the tree...” song at me.
“Seriously guys! How old are you?” I said, half laughing, half annoyed.
“Were sixth formers, we have the mental capacity of twelve year olds” Aria said smirking “And we’re your mates we’re allowed to!”
“So does that mean I can do the same for you?”
Her face sank realising what she had gotten herself into. We all laughed before singing “Aria and Lee, kissing in a tree –“
“Yeah, yeah, alright guys!” she said clearly annoyed by our response. “What happened last night was purely because we were hammered!” Aria said with a serious expression upon her face.
“And before?” I said trying to keep a straight face but failing miserably.
“Oh alright! Point made!” she said laughing along with the three of us.
We carried on up the road for several minutes still laughing at each other. This was what I loved about my mates, having a good laugh with them. It was moments like this that I realised how lucky I was to have them. Anna reached down to the stereo and turned on the music. It was Gogol Bordello. We all joined in singing along to the song, Anna tapping the top of the steering wheel in beat to the music occasionally looking over when she could to face me with that mad expression she does singing the lyrics loudly into my face. I shaked with laughter, she was mad! But that’s why I loved her.
“Becks you’re like an alarm clock when you laugh, you vibrate!”
“An alarm clock?” I said looking into the back seat at Lily, with a puzzled expression on my face.
“Well you know...” she mimicked me shaking herself.
I looked at her not knowing whether to laugh or to worry about her. Again another mad mate! I caught Aria looking the same way towards her; Lily looked over shrugging “What? She does!” we all laughed before returning to singing along with the chorus. This happened for most the journey.
