Chapter 14: FREE The Lobsters!

The next couple of days, Rose continued to hang out with Skye after school. Her friends surmised her new extracurricular activities, but never spoke about it directly to her, which markedly flummoxed Rose. Usually, they'd call her an idiot for even attempting a conversation with Skye, but now they seemed helpless. Rose could tell they wanted desperately to help her, but even with all of their brains combined, they couldn't figure out the solution. Not when they don't understand the problem. Not when Rose can't even understand the problem. So instead, they'd wait it out and hope that Skye would somehow fix everything.

Rose was hoping the same thing, and yet, deep down, in the darkest shadows of her mind, there hid a part of her which sought this destruction, desperately wanted it. She did not want Skye's help. How could she possibly help Rose? The only one who can fix the mess Rose found herself in is herself. What she really needs is to speak to Luke.

With Skye, life seemed like a thrill where every moment mattered, none should be wasted. She made Rose feel alive again, which Rose hadn't felt since Luke left.

She never thought anything through. She just did it. No need to think about the consequences. Not when it seems as though there was no one enforcing them. Mother nature seemed to be on her side. Were she to get herself into any injuries, she'd always laugh them off. Life was an adventure for her. She strayed from the path, making her own, and she wasn't scared to do it alone.

Most times, Rose wonders why she keeps her around. Why does she enjoy Rose's company so much? She seems perfectly content on her own, so why help Rose? She doesn't even seem to need Rose's help, not really. She's eighteen, and she's got life figured out. Sure, there's that boy, but Rose is not the right person to go to for that kind of help.

On this adventurous life with Skye, they do the wildest things together. The entire time Rose breaths heavy, terrified of being caught, terrified of getting hurt, and yet, none of that seemed to matter to Skye, and so with her, not to Rose.

That girl is audacious. Rose swears she has never seen fear in her eyes. Which isn't as great a thing as you would think. She doesn't fear injury. She'd sprint on the road, zipping from one side and then the other, with her eyes closed and her arms spread wide like an eagle. She never looked both ways before crossing the street, as if she didn't care. Didn't care at all.

Rose would scream bloody murder, pleading that she move, but she'd give Rose a mischievous smile, throw her head back, and laugh. Then motion that Rose follows her lead. Rose never did, always too afraid to take a risk. She kept telling Rose to live, but she is. Rose is just a bit more cautious. What's the point of doing things that could potentially kill you? That's not living. That's skimming the surface of death, and one time, luck will run out. It always does.

Anyways, back to Rose's adventurous life alongside Skye.

A few days ago, she showed up at her home panting frantically. When asked what was wrong Skye moved to the side. Behind her sat a bucket filled with ice and water. As Rose stepped forward for a closer look, she jumped back in fright.

Something was moving inside of it, splashing the water onto the ground.

"Skye, what is that?!?"

When her response didn't come, Rose walked to the bucket standing only inches away from it.

"Are those... lobsters?"

She nodded her head furiously. "We're going to free them," she gives an explanation. One that really doesn't clarify anything.
