Chapter 1: Minny, Win, & Tema
"Where's Rose?" September asks cantankerously. Her arms are crossed over her chest. She's slumped on the 8Os floral couch.
She wears a loony patterned-sweater, an attire she wears as often as she can, along with converse sneakers, shorts with ripped tights, and unkempt hair. Her formerly pink tips are now washed out and dull. She'll probably dye it soon. September is alike Avril Lavigne, only she's solely a drummer. Anyone could tell this from her hands. They're calloused and constantly wrapped in reddened bandages from playing too often.
"Whiny isn't a good look on you Tema," Minnette tells September with a bat of her long black eyelashes, before shouting French furiously in her phone. She pulls it away to whisper, "Call me down when she get's back," and then goes back to shouting, "Noé" reiteratively.
As Winter laughs, September glares and her light blue eyes darken a few shades, though it bothers Winter none. The girl is harmless, at least, to her.
"She's not witty! Don't encourage her," September grumbles.
Winter rolls her eyes with a goofy smile. Minnette and September's relationship is eternal conflict, but they really do love each other. They just show their affection differently than most people.
"Did Rose text back?" September now asks, all doe eyed. "She never answers me." There's a pouty look plastered to her face.
"Tema, that's because you don't text," Winter says with a laugh, "you just send annoying messages containing only curses and all caps."
Winter shrugs, to answer September's question, but then glances down at the lit up phone screen to check. There is a message from Rose after all.
"She says she'll be here soon, with snacks." Winter rubs her thumb across the smooth phone screen.
Technology, what a strange thing. To be able to communicate so easily, and yet, it's not always so simple. On one hand, it can be of great assistance for communication, research, and friendship; nonetheless, it's also a lethal trap for rumors, hacking, and leaking of private information.
Luke left months ago without even a goodbye, and Rose didn't even call him. Their refusal to speak about the tour puzzles Winter to no end. They're stubborn, sure, but he has to come home sometime. And it really isn't like him to leave without saying goodbye.
Winter wonders what the fight was about. When they woke up the morning after, Rose was alone upstairs. They'd snuck up last night to be alone to talk, but he wasn't up there when they all woke up, so what happened? The not saying goodbye definitely screams "fight," but what about?
"Yeah? She'll be here soon. That's fantastic!" September speaks sardonically, with a dopey grin, "Except we haven't picked out a film to watch yet."
"Right...the movie," Winter eventually replies, having spaced out for a moment, thinking of how she could fix the conflict between Rose and Luke.
Winter picks up the TV remote, flipping through Netflix in an attempt to find something decent to watch. Unfortunately, nothing grabs her interest.
"How about this?" She holds up the remote to point at the screen.
September, looking up from her phone, shakes her head in quick dismissal. "Hell no!" She laughs with a quick snort.
Winter groans, letting her arm fall onto the couch armrest. "Well, aren't you going to help me? Minny's too busy yelling at her poor cousin, Rose is still out, and you're playing—" she leans near September to look at the screen, "Watching anime? God Tema, would you help me out here?"
